Empowering students, engaging parents and inspiring teachers: together, let's learn📚 ✍️and grow!🚀

Photos from Teacher Esther Ochanya's post 11/05/2026

I made this video on the 1st of April, 2026. I should have posted it since then but didn't.

Watch and see the amazing eagle head I designed to decorate the door of my class room for third term. Find attached pictures of the class room door.

What do you think about my design?

You think 10 or 11 years olds are children until it's time to teach "The Human Reproductive System".

In a typical class, the moment you pronounce the topic, they start turning around and looking at each other.

As soon as you ask them to share what they know already about the reproductive system, hands are down and small laughs begin to escape from their mouths.

You see the girls covering their faces and the boys sending signals to each other.

As a teacher, you try to set the tone for the class by letting them know that reproduction is necessary in living things for continuity, else the whole human and animal race will go into extinction after a while.

You caution them to pay attention and avoid distractions.

They pretend like they understand you and will follow instructions.

Then, you begin to display decent power point slides with some necessary illustrations for their level.

They begin to shiver, shake their legs, scratch their heads, ask for permission to go use the rest room.

At this point, nobody goes out in my class except I'm convinced to let them.

You notice the girls trying to send signals to beg the teacher not to say or pronounce some words like breast, hair, menstruation, etc.

The boys make sounds as soon as they see an illustration and label of the p***s.

In my mind, "you people think you're the only ones that are shy?" Me that is mentioning this things, you think it's easy for me when I'm not a medical doctor?

I try to hide my smiles too due to their very funny reactions.

At the end of the day, they get the lesson, especially because some of them are gradually stepping into puberty.

Me: Any questions?

Class: Nooooooooo

Me: It's okay. I have a few questions for you.

Them: Miss Esther, pleaseeeeeeeee, we understand the lesson already.

Dear Teacher, have you noticed that your work rarely finishes at any point?

From lesson planning to teaching, to conducting assessments, to marking, to giving feedback, to mentoring students, to conflict resolution among students and the list continues.

Prioritize your health and watch against burn out. There will always be something to do.

Avoid the temptation of bringing school work home. You need time to refresh, eat and rest for productivity the next day.

Prioritize your health.

Dear parents, make out time to ask your children how school was during the week. It will be an opportunity to bond with them.

If you're running an academic program, give it all your best from the beginning and stay consistent. You will be amazed at your result.

Parents, check the expiry date on food items before giving them to your children to eat or drink

If you want your children to be academically sound, avoid feeding them with junks.

Dear mothers, aunties and senior sisters, you should have this conversation with your young daughters, nieces or siblings.

I'm a teacher and I don't fall into the category of teachers who call themselves poor.

I believe that, the teaching profession is about positioning.

Do you have Education certificate?

As a teacher, do you have the Teachers Registration Council of Nigerian (TRCN) certificate?

Do you have some basic tech skills?

Can you do basic research?

Can you prepare an interesting power point slide?

Can you use Google tools like Google classroom, Google slides, Google drive, Google docs, etc?

Can you teach without flogging, shouting or inflicting heavy punishment?

Are you a good communicator?

Do you have good social skills?

Do you have good knowledge of your subject specialization or can you at least teach both maths and English?

Are you flexible?

There are skills and certifications you need to acquire to work in a school that will pay you well.

Some private schools in Nigeria do not even use the Nigerian curriculum; some use the Cambridge curriculum and such schools pay better.

There are Nigerian private schools that pay well too.

Such schools are many in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other cities.

Plan and make moves and by God's help, you can earn better as a teacher.

From my observation as a teacher, children whose parents are actively involved in their learning do better academically.
