THINK LIKE A CHILD
Sometimes, creative insights come from the willingness to ask obvious questions, as children notoriously do.
Ask playful questions to put yourself or a brainstorming group into a childlike, playfully aware state:
• Try seeing and thinking about your problem as a living creature. What would it look like? Draw a picture of it. For example, the problem of selling more houses might appear as a helpless, strange-looking creature.
• See your problem as edible. What would it taste like?
• Can you imagine the past and likely future of your problem?
• Look at the problem as the top of something and imagine what the underground portion looks like. Can you describe it?
• View the world from the perspective of the problem. What do you look like to the problem?
• Search the problem for something that is beautiful or aesthetically interesting. Can you find something?
• Imagine the personal life of the problem. What are its politics? Its religion? What would its love life be like? Where was the problem born? Does it have siblings? If so, are they friendly with each other? What is the problem afraid of?
• If you were the problem’s psychotherapist, what would the problem confide to you?
IF YOU CAN ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS CORRECTLY, YOU HAVE DISSOLVED YOUR PROBLEMS.
