One thing every beginner must understand is this:

Baking is about accuracy, not guesswork

Here’s a simple breakdown

Dry ingredients (like flour)

Should be lightly scooped and leveled not packed

Too much flour = heavy cake

Sugar

Adds sweetness AND moisture

Reducing it too much can affect texture

Butter

Adds richness and softness

Too little = dry cake, too much = greasy

Liquid (milk/water)

Helps bring everything together

Too little = thick batter, too much = runny batter

The key is balance

Every ingredient in baking has a role it’s not just ā€œmix and bakeā€

How I Price My Cakes for Profit (Simple Formula)

One of the biggest mistakes I see bakers make…
They don’t know how to price their cakes

Some underprice and run at a loss…

Step 1: Calculate your cost
(Ingredients + packaging + gas/electricity)

Step 2: Add your time & effort
(Your skill is NOT free!)

Step 3: Add your profit
(At least 30%–50%)

That’s your selling price

Simple… but powerful šŸ’Æ

Example:
If your cake costs ₦5,000 to make
Sell for ₦7,000 – ₦8,000 minimum

SOFT VANILLA CAKE RECIPE (Beginner Friendly)

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter/margarine
4 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla flavor

Method:

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
Add eggs one after the other
Mix flour and baking powder together
Add dry ingredients + milk gradually
Add vanilla flavor
Pour into pan and bake at 180°C for 30–40 mins

Result: Soft, fluffy and perfect for birthdays & sales!

PUFF PUFF RECIPE

Ingredients:

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- Vegetable oil for frying

Procedure:

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
2. In a separate bowl, proof the yeast by mixing it with lukewarm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms.
4. Mix for at least 5 minutes
5. Place the dough in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
6. Preheat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
7. Once oil is hot, use a spoon to drop small balls of dough into the oil, about the size of a golf ball.
8. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
9. Remove Puff-Puff from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
10. Serve warm and enjoy!

LEMONGRASS

Lemongrass is an herb that people can use to make a nutritious tea.
Relieving anxiety. Many people find sipping hot tea to be relaxing, but lemongrass tea may offer further anxiety-reducing properties:
Lowering cholesterol
Preventing infection
Boosting oral health
Relieving pain
Boosting red blood cell levels
Relieving bloating.

Now grown in Africa, Australia, and North and South America, lemongrass is widely used as a natural remedy for digestive issues, neurological problems, and high blood pressure.

Lemongrass reportedly has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It has traditionally been used as a pain reliever and fever reducer.

Lemongrass should be used in moderation. Consuming in excess may cause side effects like dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, frequent urination, increased appetite, and allergic reactions like rash and itching. Therefore, you are advised to consult a healthcare provider before using lemongrass for its health benefits.

Lemongrass tea could be enjoyed with ginger and or honey.
