We successfully completed Week 5 of the LCI Cloud Guardians 1.0 Cybersecurity Training, diving deeper into pe*******on testing and real-world security practices.

This impactful session was facilitated by Engr O Emmanuel Olalekan, who guided participants through both the theory and practical aspects of ethical hacking.

Key Highlights:

- Understanding pe*******on testing methodology and workflow (Reconnaissance → Scanning → Exploitation → Reporting)

- Emphasis on ethical hacking and the importance of authorization before testing

- Installation and configuration of OWASP ZAP (Zed Attack Proxy) and Java Runtime

- Hands-on web application vulnerability scanning using ZAP

Identification of real vulnerabilities such as:

- Missing Content Security Policy
- Clickjacking risks
- Missing security headers

Participants also explored man-in-the-middle (MITM) concepts, understanding how attackers can intercept traffic in controlled environments.

Practical Takeaways:

- Setting up ZAP for automated and manual scans

- Configuring Firefox for proxy-based interception testing

- Generating and analyzing vulnerability reports

Core Lesson:

Cybersecurity is not just about tools — it’s about ethics, structure, and responsibility.

Special appreciation to Engr O Emmanuel Olalekan for delivering a highly practical, engaging, and insightful session.

Week 4 Recap: Mastering Vulnerability Assessment & Scanning in Cybersecurity

We’ve successfully completed Week 4 of the LCI Cloud Guardians 1.0 Cybersecurity Training, marking the halfway point of our 8-week journey—and this session was both insightful and hands-on.

This week’s class, facilitated by Emmanuel Olalekan Ogunsola, focused on one of the most critical areas in cybersecurity: Vulnerability Assessment and Scanning.

🔍 What We Covered:

Participants gained a solid understanding of key concepts, including:

- What vulnerabilities are and how attackers exploit them
- CVE and CVSS for identifying and prioritizing risks
- Zero-day vulnerabilities and exploit risks
- The clear distinction between Vulnerability Assessment vs Pe*******on Testing

The session kicked off with an interactive phishing awareness quiz, reinforcing the importance of identifying deceptive links and social engineering tactics.

đź’» Hands-On Practical:

Learning went beyond theory as participants:

Performed live scans using HostedScan on authorized targets
Explored Nikto on Kali Linux
Analyzed scan results, including open ports, weak configurations, and vulnerability severity levels

Participants actively shared their screens, compared findings, and understood how attackers could exploit identified weaknesses—making the session highly interactive and practical.

⚠️ Key Takeaways:
Ethical hacking starts with permission and responsibility
Not all HTTPS sites are safe—critical thinking is essential
Continuous scanning and patching are vital for security
Hands-on practice is the fastest way to build real cybersecurity skills

🙏 Special Note:
We also extend our thoughts to the scheduled instructor José Cafanda, who was unable to attend due to a personal loss.

As we move forward, participants are encouraged to:

Practice vulnerability scanning using tools like HostedScan and Nikto
Explore OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities
Continue hands-on learning and engagement within the community

At LCI Cloud Guardians, we are committed to building practical, ethical, and job-ready cybersecurity talents.

The journey continues 🚀

We successfully wrapped up Week 3 of the LCI Cloud Guardians 1.0 Free Cybersecurity Training, and it was nothing short of impactful.

This session, led by Maxwell Omondi focused on Linux fundamentals and practical navigation using Kali Linux— a critical foundation for anyone pursuing cybersecurity.

Participants were introduced to essential Linux commands such as:

* pwd, ls, cd for navigation
* mkdir, cp, mv, rm for file and directory management

Beyond just commands, the session emphasized understanding the Linux file system, directory structure, and the importance of hands-on practice— a key skill in real-world cybersecurity.

One highlight was the interactive teaching style, where participants actively engaged while practicing live demonstrations. Due to time constraints, extended practical exercises were assigned, including:

* File/directory structure tasks
* Practicing on the OverTheWire (Bandit) platform

👉 Kindly watch, revisit the concepts, and practice along to strengthen your understanding.
