Importance of Physics
Physics is important because it:
1. Helps us to understand nature and the universe
2. Forms the foundation of engineering and technology
3. Improves problem-solving and logical reasoning skills
4. Drives scientific discoveries and innovation
5. Supports other sciences like chemistry, biology, astronomy and geology.

Branches of Physics
Physics is generally divided into two: Classical Physics and Modern Physics
Classical Physics includes:
• Mechanics (deals with force and motion)
• Thermodynamics (deals with heat and temperature)
• Optics (deals with light)
• Electromagnetism (deals with electricity and magnetism)
• Acoustics (deals with sound and waves)
Modern Physics includes:
• Quantum Mechanics
• Relativity
• Particle Physics
• Atomic Physics
• Molecular Physics
• Nuclear Physics
Classical Physics (macro Physics) deals with objects visible to the naked eye (e.g., cars, planets), while Modern Physics (micro physics) deals with particles invisible to the eye (e.g., atoms, electrons).
NB: Our lessons shall focus, mainly, on Classical Physics.

What Is Physics?
Physics is a natural science that studies matter and energy and the interactions between them.
It explains natural phenomena and helps us to understand how the universe works. For example, Physics explains why:
• Lightning occurs
• Aeroplanes fly
A person who studied Physics is called a Physicist.
