Ebonyi state Ubeb teachers forum
the teachers of primary and junior secondary schools in Ebonyi state under UBEB
I thank all our fellow Teachers for your observations, contributions, and patience.
The observations/amendment of the Governor's letter is very important, timeous & noteworthy. Let's take it seriously . The writer, by the special grace of God will act accordingly.
The summary of it is:
Prompt payment of monthly salary like SEB teachers and other State workers & also immediate payment of *arrears* of # *20,000* for 7 months.
I shall be one of the signatories, if you accept. I wish to sign the letter. It is a request letter and not a crime. Thanks!
Good afternoon my fellow professional teachers.
The letter to the *Governor* is good and well worded but one unresolved & lingering issue should be added.
It is:"the *arrears* of # *20,000* for about *seven* ( *7* ) *months* should be added".
After the amendment, the letter should be *delivered* to him within the week. We should also copy all the LGA chairmen, Education Secretaries, UBEC Abuja, Federal Ministry of Education Abuja, UBEB Abakaliki, NUT National body, NUT State Wing, State House of Assembly, etc. Thanks!
I got over 10 reactions on one of my posts last week! Thanks everyone for your support! 🎉
Any missive to the governor highlighting only late payment of salaries as UBEB teachers problems, is incomplete.
1. UBEB teachers should be paid exactly at the end of every month. Not one day after. It's not rocket science.
2. UBEB teachers are grossly underpaid for no justifiable reasons.
3. UBEB teachers are denied welfare packages given to their SEB counterpart for no reason other than being UBEB teachers.
4. Etc
Your Excellency,
Rt Hon. Prince Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru,
Executive Governor of Ebonyi State,
Government House,
Centenary City,
Abakaliki,

RE: NON-PAYMENT OF APRIL 2026 SALARIES TO TEACHERS UNDER THE UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION BOARD AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC CONFIDENCE
I write with utmost respect and a deep sense of responsibility as a stakeholder and concerned citizen of Ebonyi State to draw your attention to the continued non-payment of April 2026 salaries to teachers under the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) as of today, 18th May 2026. While you definitely could not have understood the situation on the ground, I have courageously decided to speak with a gaiety that would lift the spirit of both the sheep and the shepherd.
The teaching profession remains the foundation of human capital development, and the welfare of teachers is directly tied to the quality of education delivered to our children. The delay, occasioned by late arrival of federal allocation, in remuneration- extending beyond the 17th day of the succeeding month- has placed undue hardship on the thousands of educators who continue to discharge their duties with high sense of professionalism and commendable dedication, despite the prevailing economic hiccups or bottlenecks.
Your Excellency, it is pertinent to recall that under the immediate past administration, UBEB teachers consistently received their salaries not later than the 5th day of the succeeding month. That practice fostered a measure of stability and considerable trust between the government and the teaching workforce. The current deviation from that established standard has generated understandable concern and low morale among the teachers across the state.
Sir, beyond the humanitarian and administrative dimensions, this seemingly trivial matter bears direct relevance to good governance and political stability. We are approaching the critical phases of the electioneering period, and the voting pattern in the state has historically been influenced by the perception of how the civil servants, particularly teachers, who are unarguably in the majority, are treated among their contemporaries by the government. A demoralised and unpaid teaching workforce poses a significant risk to public goodwill and can undermine the confidence that the electorate has in your administration's commitment to workers' welfare.
It may interest you to note that timely payment of salaries is not merely an administrative obligation, but a demonstration of respect for labour and a signal of responsive leadership. The prompt settlement of April 2026 outstanding salaries will serve to restore confidence, reaffirm your administration's prioritisation of education and strengthen the goodwill of the teaching community ahead of the forthcoming political engagements.
Your Excellency, in the light of the foregoing, I humbly and urgently appeal that Your Excellency direct the relevant authorities to ensure the immediate release and payment of the April 2026 salaries to all affected UBEB teachers, and subsequently collect overdraft from the banks to enable them to pay workers timely this month. Such action will not only alleviate the current hardship but also reinforce the positive perception of your government as one that honours its obligations and values its workforce.
Finally, the layman on the street would believe it is your fault or those of the authorities concerned to deliberately delay the salaries for their selfish and economic reasons. I, personally, trust in your leadership and your well-known commitment to the development of Ebonyi State. Because we live in an era of spectacular distraction from political nomads and attention seekers, we cannot afford to leave any stone unturned. I remain optimistic that this matter will receive your immediate and favourable attention it deserves.
Yours faithfully,
Emeka Iboko (High Chief Aphulenya Ekwe II of Iseke Mgbomeze), a reliable voice from the market place.

Happy Workers’ Day to all my fellow teachers, our nation builders and silent heroes.
Today, I celebrate your resilience, your patience, and your unwavering commitment to shaping minds and molding the future. Even when the classrooms are tough, the resources are limited, and the rewards seem small, you continue to give your best.
That sacrifice does not go unnoticed.
You are more than educators, you are mentors, counselors, role models, and guiding lights to countless young lives.
The seeds you plant today will grow into tomorrow’s leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
Be encouraged: your labor is not in vain. Every lesson taught, every child inspired, every life touched is a legacy that will speak for generations.
May you find renewed strength, joy, and pride in this noble profession. Keep standing tall, keep believing, and keep making a difference.
Happy Workers’ Day!
Ebonyi State Government should review its policy on compulsory retirement of workers in the state's civil service who have been directors for a period of eight years not minding the remainder of their years in active service. This happens only in Ebonyi State and it's a huge sabotage. Ebonyi civil service has by this abolished level 17 promotion in the state. This is strange. There's no more level 17 in Ebonyi civil service. Why retire a worker who still has up to two to three years to work just because they've served as director for eight years? This same state government appointed some level 12 civil servants permanent secretaries. This is an abuse of civil service protocols.
Ebonyi civil servants are paid the lowest in Nigeria. A level 16 civil servant in audit agency receives N250K monthly. Level 16! In other ministries apart from health and judiciary, level 16 civil servants earn around N180K in today's Nigeria. A friend of my wife was recently employed into an agency in Anambra State and her startup salary is N200K. Imagine how much it'll be when she gets to level 16. This is a state civil service. Ebonyi State Government should rethink its policy on civil service. Its current policy encourages truancy among workers and pilfering of public fund.
How on earth is a civil servant at grade level 14 be receiving N100K in salary in today's Nigeria! This is wickedness. The Head of Service to Ebonyi State Government is about retiring some level 16 civil servants who still have up to two-three years of active service. This policy is bad and should be abolished. It's a novel policy in the state and needs to be abrogated. Ebonyi civil servants are weeping. The State Government should use the money with which it's buying cars for clergymen in private religious business on our suffering civil servants. Promotion is now based on clan interest and other unconventional considerations. It's not good. Is this how the government intends to fight povertyă…ˇ weakening the strong to strengthen the weak? Ebonyi APC secretary who had nothing to his name prior to 2023 recently opened a personal mansion of over N500 million just because he's a governor's boy. Governor attended the housewarming party. I am sure he'd be shocked how suddenly the guy became this rich. This should be extended to our civil servants ă…ˇ merrygoround.
In this current reality, no worker who pilfers public fund should be blamed. It's an act of wickedness treating them this way. If the government was serious about fighting poverty and primitivity, our civil servants should not have been treated this way. Mr Governor should rethink this Policy
About the poor payment of teachers...
Teaching was once a noble profession rooted in classic principles that swore to the beatitude of economic stability and a pleasurable lifespan.
It once exuded an infectious aura that registered every primary school teacher as a beacon of moral, economic, and academic foundation.
In those days, teachers were seen as scholarly celebrities; they were publicly decorated with novel accolades and enviable ovations.
But today, every teacher staggers down the valley of life with a walking stick of agony. In their world, every bird flies backwards. They are the cross on which the future of education is crucified. They work and rot.
Even if teachers are promptly paid, their salary is a coin in the plate of a beggar and an official license to poverty.
A minimum wage for a teacher is a maximal dose of economic penury and woes, as it can't even cover their monthly transport fare.
No great politician is without a teacher. It's regrettable that teachers are the producers of those who break the neck of their welfare and healthy living. They produce and impact knowledge to our leaders but are paid back with a weeping salary structure.
Why every government turns a blind eye to the sordid teachers' welfare is still an unsolved mystery. A teacher has no political empowerment, no special allowances, no improved salary structure, and no professional reward packages.
They are left to cry like a chick under the claws of an eagle. Government should stop renovating schools if they can't 'renovate' the teachers as well.
In those days, teachers were role models. Their dressings distinguished them and placed them in the correct social ladder where they belonged, but now, they are the reason 'bend-down-select' traders are still thriving.
Our government should do something to wipe away the tears from the sorrowful faces of our teachers. It will go a long way in bringing back our primary and secondary schools that can no longer boast of producing literates but illiterates.
Anytime I remember I once prayed to be like my teacher, I usually jump out of my skin to erase the memory.
The government has left the teachers.
The teachers left the schools.
Students left their studies.
Education left.
I left.
Everything left.
This is very unfortunate, isn't it?
