That One Child Who Finishes Work in 3 Seconds

Dear educator,
We all know that child.
You give a 10-minute classwork and p**f!, in 3 seconds, they’re done.

You stare at them like 😳… and then the real challenge begins:

• “Okay… now what?”

• Watching them hum, stretch, or stare at the ceiling while others are still working

• Deciding whether to give extra work or quietly enjoy the rare moment of silence

• Pretending to rearrange your papers while secretly wondering how they finished so fast 😅

Some teachers panic.
Some teachers improvise.

Others start planning tomorrow’s lesson in their head while the child patiently waits.
The struggle is real.
The laughter is unavoidable.

Progress Over Perfection in the Classroom.

Dear educator,
progress will always matter more than perfection.
Not every lesson will land exactly as planned.
Not every class will feel smooth, quiet, or picture-perfect.
And that’s okay.
If learning is happening, even in small, quiet ways, you are doing meaningful work.

Growth is often messy. Teaching is deeply human.

So give yourself grace. Celebrate the little wins. And keep moving forward with purpose.

Dear educator,
how you end a lesson is just as important as how you begin it.
A strong ending helps learning stick and gives students a sense of clarity, not confusion. It helps them walk out feeling confident about what they’ve learned and what comes next.
Here are simple, effective ways to close your lessons well:
• Do a quick recap, let students share what they learned in their own words
• Ask one or two reflective or critical-thinking questions
• Use a short exit task (oral or written) to check understanding
• Invite a student to teach back what stood out to them
• End with a clear “what’s next” so learners know what to expect
Strong endings build confident learners, and confident learners engage better.
