Holiday is here!Thank God for the successful completion of another academic session, the "Decision Term," as I always call it.

At the end of every session, many parents decide whether to retain their children in their current schools or move them elsewhere.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with changing schools if you believe it is in your child's best interest.

However, one thing should never be overlooked: ensure that every outstanding school fee is paid before your child leaves the school.

Leaving a school with unpaid fees, whether full or partial, can have moral, emotional, relational, and even spiritual consequences for both you and your child.

Here are seven reasons why you should never do it:

1. It reflects a lack of integrity.
Children learn more from what we do than from what we say. Walking away from a financial obligation teaches them that commitments can be ignored when they become inconvenient.

2. It is taking a service without paying for it.
The school has invested time, resources, facilities, and staff in educating your child. Enjoying those services without paying what is due is unfair to the school.

3. It damages your reputation and credibility.
Integrity takes years to build but can be damaged by one poor decision. A good name is worth protecting.

4. It hurts the school and its workers.
School fees are used to pay teachers' salaries, maintain facilities, provide learning materials, and keep the school running. Unpaid fees affect many innocent people.

5. It sets a poor example for your child.
If you expect your child to be truthful, responsible, and accountable, those values must first be demonstrated at home.

6. It can affect future relationships and opportunities.
Many schools keep records of unpaid fees, and unresolved financial obligations may affect references, the release of documents, or future interactions.

7. It honours God when you keep your commitments.
As parents, we should be known for honesty, faithfulness, and integrity. Paying what we owe reflects godly character, preserves our witness, and gives us peace of mind.

If you are facing genuine financial difficulties, communicate honestly with the school management. Most schools appreciate sincere parents who are willing to discuss payment plans rather than disappear with unpaid fees.

Remember, your child is watching. The values you demonstrate today will shape the character they carry into adulthood.
Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Let us raise children who will be known for honesty, responsibility, and strong character by first modelling those values ourselves.

3. Store onions in a dry, airy place to make them last longer.
4. Add a little salt when washing vegetables to help remove dirt and tiny insects.
5. Put ripe bananas in the fridge to slow down over-ripening.
6. Use lemon or vinegar to reduce fish smell on your hands after cooking.
7. Soak burnt pots with warm water and soap before scrubbing to make cleaning easier.
8. Add a little oil when boiling pasta or noodles to reduce sticking.
9. Store garri in an airtight container to keep away moisture and insects.
10. Use warm water and salt to soothe mild throat irritation.
11. Wash fruits before refrigerating only when ready to eat to help them last longer.
12. Put a small piece of bread inside biscuit containers to help maintain crispness.
13. Use separate chopping boards for raw meat and vegetables to reduce contamination.
14. Drink enough water during hot weather to avoid dehydration.
15. Keep cooked food covered properly to protect it from flies and dust.
16. Use hot water and vinegar to reduce odor in food flasks or bottles.
17. Don’t store hot soup directly in the fridge—allow it to cool first.
18. Add a little lemon to beans while soaking to help reduce cooking time slightly.
19. Open windows while cooking with charcoal or firewood for better ventilation.
20. Use a clean dry spoon when scooping powdered milk to prevent spoilage.
21. Store tomatoes separately from onions to help slow spoilage.
22. Wash kitchen sponges regularly because they can harbor germs quickly.
23. Add a pinch of salt while frying plantain to help reduce oil absorption slightly.
24. Use mosquito nets properly to reduce mosquito bites and malaria risk.
25. Keep drinking water covered to avoid contamination.
26. Avoid reheating cooking oil repeatedly because it may become unhealthy over time.
27. Use warm water to soften hardened bread slightly before reheating.
28. Clean your refrigerator regularly to reduce odor and bacteria buildup.
29.Avoid leaving cooked rice at room temperature for too long to reduce food poisoning risk.
30. Wash your hands before cooking and eating to help prevent infections.

Simple daily habits in the kitchen and at home can improve hygiene, reduce waste, and support healthier living. Many effective solutions do not require expensive products—just awareness, consistency, and proper care. Small practical habits often make a big difference in maintaining a safer and healthier lifestyle.
