The first step to knowledge is to know that we are ignorant, and Education isn't what we learn, it's what we do with what we've learnt...... HAPPY NEW YEAR.
"Energy" is a word we use a lot. But what does it mean? Look it up in a dictionary, and you'll probably find something like "usable power". Basically, energy is the power to : DO WORK = HEAT THINGS UP = COOL THINGS DOWN = PROVIDE LIGHT = LIVE OUR LIVES :- (1) DO WORK : Anything that takes effort is work-and it always requires energy. Some examples include making a car go, pedaling a bicycle, running a vacuum cleaner, throwing a ball, firing a rocket into space, and writing a letter or printing one out from a computer. (2) HEAT THINGS UP : Cooking, keeping a house warm, heating the water for a shower-all of these take energy. (3) COOL THINGS DOWN : It takes energy to keep food cold in refrigerators, to make ice cubes, to keep ice cream from melting, and to run an air conditioner. (4) PROVIDE LIGHT : Without energy, we'd be in the dark-literally. Whether it's from the sun, from a battery in a flashlight, or from an electric outlet, we need energy to give us the light that enables us to see. (5) LIVE OUR LIVES : As you can see, we use energy in almost everything we do. Heating food, building houses, getting from one place to another, storing and cooking food, even typing this lines all take energy.
There are 25 simple things kids can do to save energy. Did you know?
