The Kavango River, flowing through northern eastern Namibia and Angola, is a vital ecological and economic resource for the communities that depend on it. Protecting the environment around the Kavango River, particularly around Popa Falls, is essential for preserving its biodiversity, supporting local livelihoods, and ensuring sustainable tourism.

Biodiversity protection of the livelihood on the Kavango River and around Popa Falls requires a an approach that balances ecological conservation, community needs, and sustainable tourism. By taking proactive steps to safeguard this precious resource, we can ensure that the river continues to support biodiversity and local livelihoods for years to come.

Great effort indeed!

In order to better understand the diversity of species, important habitats, and challenges faced by chondrichthyans (sharks, skates, rays, and chimaeras) in Namibian waters, the NaRaS (Namibia's Rays and Sharks) Project is gathering baseline data on these animals. Through communication and education, the project also hopes to raise awareness of Namibia's sharks and rays and their responsibilities in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.
