Play-based learning through joyful, hands-on and educational experiences! Seen here is one of the many games played at the third Community Literacy and Numeracy Event in Thopuitho, Nampula! Play- based learning is at the cornerstone of F&H's literacy and numeracy capacity building program in the district of Larde.

A feature on one of our incredible teachers in the Larde District who is collaborating with F&H to improve literacy and numeracy capacity to over 1000 children.

F&H was thrilled to meet with over 500 parents in the Larde District for our second parent workshop, working together to support literacy and numeracy at school and at home for their children. Parents also created educational materials out of recycled goods and learned games to play with their kids at the second L&N community event!

Comunidades que aprendem juntas, crescem e prosperam juntas. É um facto!

É neste contexto que o Programa de Literacia e Numeracia, realização o Evento Comunitário, onde as 7 escolas juntaram-se e alunos, professores, pais e encarregados de educação e anciãos, aprenderem e ensinaram, partilharam habilidades e trocaram experiências e conhecimentos através de de histórias, canto e dança, jogos, elaboração de materiais didácticos e entenderam o quão importante é a união e o comprometimento de uma comunidade para o desenvolvimento da educação de uma criança e preparação de um adulto do amanhã.

Saturday marked the official opening of the Sibakuse child learning center, funded by . This center, in addition to the community center will support the Sibakuse community in educational and health activities. F&H and Grindrod celebrated the day alongside over 180 children, creating art and playing sports and games!

Foi numa manhã, no período do intervalo, na Escola Básica de Thopuitho, uma das escolas que está em implementação o Programa de Literacia e Numeracia, no Distrito de Larde, financiado pela Kenmare, que a equipa enquanto aguardava o toque para entrada conversava com o professor Abubacar Alide, o quase Militar.

Jovem, 31 anos de idade, professor da 3a classe, que na sua infância tinha como sonho se tornar militar porque gostava de ver a farda verde. Hoje, depois de 7 anos, o professor proveniente de Angoche, agradece o seu pai que lhe incentivou a ser professor. Tem sido uma jornada facil? Não, mas o sonho de ser militar já não passa pela mente. Na verdade, ele tem clareza do que quer e por isso este ano de 2024, está a fazer Licenciatura em História, na Universidade Católica de Moçambique e já está a pensar em fagzer um mestrado.
Quando perguntado o que é que tem de bom em ser professor? Ele disse que o seu papel é contribuir para o bem-estar de uma criança.

In 2023, F&H continued our mission to ‘take action that is contextually meaningful and globally relevant to be in service of people and planet’, and were honored to collaborate with incredible partners across private and public sectors.

Although late, we would like to express our gratitude to Grindrod in their support within our social and environmental pillar, making possible the dream of more than 20 years in completing the construction of a community teaching and learning center in the Sibakuse community. F&H’s work with AISJ and Oslo International School under our education pillar, continued to authentically connect local context to curriculum, fostering global citizenship among students and educators. Year two of partnering with Coca-Cola Beverages Africa on women empowerment activities, allowed for the micro-business, and health and safety training of 100 plastic collectors, who through a train-the-trainer model ultimately reached 10 466 individuals by means of knowledge sharing and provided economic inclusion opportunities to an additional 816 individuals.

Our deepest thanks to other collaborators from 2023, Eden Reforestation Projects, Parque Nacional de Maputo, Nandos Peri Peri Maxamba, Natura Mozambique, and Africa Panorama Group who we had the privilege of working alongside. Finally, we express our ongoing gratitude to our F&H staff whose expertise in the areas of health, language, national policy, economics and indigenous agriculture, make our programs possible.

Introducing Fernando Ricotso! A master in 7 languages, with a degree in modern languages, Fernando is passionate about facilitating empowerment through education and F&H is privileged to have him on the team.

'Web of Ideas'- a fantastic activity to show a visual representation of the network of ideas present in a group! Our topic was differentiation, how it makes us feel, the challenges, triumphs and tools we use in our classrooms.

Taking time to explore our lenses, how we see the world and how this affects our actions in the classroom (through a city photography tour of course)!
Also incorporating Compass Education's compass tool into the activity.
