Dear colleagues and friends,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the MICROCASA International Conference 2026: Micro-Credentials for Lifelong Learning and Employability in Southeast Asia, to be held on February 3–4, 2026, at the University Conference Hall, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang.

This two-day conference will bring together educators, researchers, policymakers, and industry partners to exchange knowledge and innovative practices on the design, implementation, and sustainability of micro-credentials in higher education.

Full Paper Submission: January 10th, 2026

As the curtains draw on a remarkable edition of the International Distance Education Conference (iDEC), we are honoured to have been inspired by a thought-provoking Closing Keynote Address delivered by Dr. The Honourable Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, Republic of Mauritius.
📚 Keynote Title:
“Advancing Digital Education for a Sustainable Future: Global Trends, Policies, and Innovations”
Dr. Sukon shared transformative insights into how nations can harness digital learning to drive sustainability, equity, and innovation — echoing iDEC’s mission to empower learners and educators worldwide.

We were also privileged to receive Closing Remarks from Ms. Torunn Gjelsvik, Secretary General of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), reaffirming the importance of collaboration and inclusivity in the global open learning movement.

The conference concluded with the Award Winners Announcement & Closing Ceremony, marking an emotional and inspiring moment — the official Passing of the Baton from USM Penang to NOU Taiwan, symbolizing the start of a new chapter for iDEC.

随着本届*国际远程教育大会（iDEC）*圆满落幕，我们有幸聆听到来自**毛里求斯共和国高等教育、科学与研究部部长——尊敬的卡维拉吉·沙玛·苏孔博士（Dr. The Honourable Kaviraj Sharma Sukon）**的压轴主旨演讲。

Day 2 started with the 4th Keynote speaker: Prof. Dr Carlos Delgado Kloos, Dep. Ingeniería Telemática · Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain, “Formal, Non-Formal, and Informal Learning in the Intelligence Age”.

Prof Carlos is actually 12 hours behind us in the Dominican Republic!

🌐 USM 🤝 UPOU 🤝 NOU 🤝 UT | iDEC Consortium MoA Signed!

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), National Open University (NOU), Taiwan, and Universitas Terbuka (UT), Indonesia, have officially entered into a five-year consortium agreement through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing ceremony held virtually on 14 July 2025.

🎯 What’s in the MoA?
✅ Member institutions will take turns hosting the annual International Digital Education Conference (iDEC) from 2025–2029
✅ This collaboration also aims to strengthen digital education across the region, promote joint knowledge exchange, and build a sustainable and inclusive future through research and scalable learning innovation.
