I’m excited to share a collection of amazing videos created by my Molecular & Cell Biology Year-1 students for a class project "CELLs in the SPOTLIGHT".

As part of their course project, each group explored current issues related to various cell biology topics and produced a 2-minute video to communicate their ideas creatively and scientifically (and in a fun way). From cutting-edge research to real-world biological challenges, they did an incredible job transforming complex concepts into engaging visual stories.

Every year, the final-year cohort attends industrial training at relevant premises. Prior to joining their training placement, we organise a sharing session to give junior students a glimpse of industrial working experience. We are thankful that the seniors are willing to contribute back to the Faculty by sharing their internship experiences.

This year, we held two internship sharing sessions (in January and October). It was wonderful to keep in touch with all the speakers and to listen to their internship journeys.

On 19 June 2025, the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (FBSB), UPM successfully organized a program titled 'Memperkasakan Graduan Biologi Sel dan Molekul - Hala Tuju Kerjaya dan Inspirasi Alumni'.

The objectives of this program were to expose students to various career opportunities after graduation, share insights from the industry regarding essential graduate skills and attributes, and inspire students through real-life experiences of successful alumni.

The program began with a career talk entitled What Employers Look for in Graduates by Ms Angela Yong Mie Lee, Director of Operations of Apical Scientific Sdn Bhd. This was followed by an engaging alumni forum titled What’s Next After Graduation? Postgraduate Studies vs. Career Pathways, featuring three inspiring panelists:

* Ms Ong Xia Jin (Graduate Research Assistant, Applied Agricultural Resources Sdn Bhd)
* Ms Nur Dini Fatini Mohammad Faizal (PhD student, Faculty of Pharmacy, UKM)
* Dr Cyrus Cha (Product Manager, Next Gene Scientific Sdn Bhd)

The department extends its heartfelt appreciation to all speakers, alumni panelists, and students who made the event a success. It is hoped that this program provided valuable insights and motivation to help our students shape their future with confidence.

Functional Genomics and Structural Biology (FGSB) Workshop Series: Unlocking microbial diversity through shotgun metagenomics has been successfully organised by the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences in collaboration with Codon Genomics Sdn Bhd on 6 – 7 May 2025. The workshop was attended by postgraduate students and researchers from public and private universities, research institutes and private company. The participants were provided with insightful contents on the metagenomics analysis including personalised genomic clinics during and after the workshop sessions. Our experts also introduced an emerging and transformative technology called metagenome-assembled genome (MAG) that can bridge the gap between metagenomic data and genome-level understanding, allowing researchers to explore the microbial "dark matter" and its potential for applications in various fields.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Dhilia Udie Lamasudin has been promoted to Associate Professor!

Dr. Dhilia's current research focuses on proteomics and the study of shipworms. Her work also explores the potential applications of shipworms in the biotechnology industry through transcriptome and proteome analyses, as well as alternative proteins for food security and bioactive proteins and peptides for various applications. In addition to her research, Dr. Dhilia has been a dedicated educator 👩‍🏫
