안녕하십니까..
Just completed 3-day orientation for this year’s KOMTEP candidates. Nervous for all of them but I think they’ll do well in South Korea. These photos were taken during their selection camp, at the time they weren’t sure whether they’d be selected to go or not.

To my new KOMTEP juniors,
Spread your wings there, and make us all proud. ❤️

Anyhoo, these past few months I've been busy helping out and getting involved with . InsyaAllah I'll share more on that later.

Work is hectic as always but I decided to enroll in this 4-week online course on Global Citizenship Education (GCED). Hopefully I'll successfully complete the course in the given time ^^ You can also check out the website. *^O^*

I was kind of star-strucked yesterday. 😅
Back when I was doing my TESL degree I saw his name regularly on our reference books.
Never met him because I was only a distance-learner (off campus) student of UPM.
Good to finally meet you, Prof Dr Jayakaran Mukundan!

From Korea to Kelantan - Ep 2.

Successfully completed our participation in this year's Jelajah Pendidikan Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia at PPD Pasir Puteh, Kelantan.

Episode 1 was about my kids getting to know their Korean peers, this time it's about sharing our experience with the community.

Alhamdulillah, the response was tremendous. Some even share their views and opinions which I think were very meaningful. We managed to have healthy discussion about the education system and everything.

There were students who inspired to learn Korean language, and some really enjoyed playing traditional games from Korea.

Thank you JPN Kelantan for the opportunity. And obviously, to BPG that never fail to support us all this while. 😘

Exactly last week with my KOMTEP2017 siblings, officers and new acquaintances @ Debriefing Session.

Today, my Korean colleague gave us a copy of a diary written by her student. In Korea, students are asked to write about what they do everyday and their diary will be checked by the homeroom teacher. It's a good practice, but not sure if it's doable in Msia, teachers all already "tak menang tangan".

Anyway here's the translated version of the diary entry. This student wrote about the lesson we had in her class.

"Malaysian teachers came into our class. I was very excited. It's because the Malaysian teachers showed us Malaysian clothes and money. It made me happy. Also they showed a flower in Malaysia. The name is Bunga Raya. Once the lesson ended, the teachers gave us Malaysian candy. I was very thankful. It would be nice if the teachers could come to our classroom everyday." 😍😍

A grade 2 student wrote this. Really made my day!! ^^

"Sarana Ibu Bapa" at its best. In Gyeongju's Geumjang Elementary School, parents volunteer to be librarians.

And all over Korea, parents also volunteer to be lollipop man/lady to ensure their children's safety going to school. More on that soon.

Oh, it's gonna be my last week in Korea. Time. REALLY. Flies.

15 November 2017, Gyeongju.

I experienced my first earthquake. 5.5 on Richter's scale. Was a bit clueless when it happened, I thought there was some kind of big tractor or crane that came to school LOL

But in all seriousness, thank god for the earthquake drills we had these past months, I knew where to go and what to do when it really happened. "Are you okay?" "Are you scared?" - questions my kids asked upon seeing me at the evacuation field.

Fellow teachers came to me and uttered "만히 놀라죠?" with sympathetic expression. It's not like they can control the disaster, so having them worrying about me made me warm inside, contrary to the super cold weather we had today.

Oh, and a teacher even dragged me into her car during the evacuation so that I don't have to stand in the cold. Huhuhu. How can I not love being here and feel at home?

Kids being kids though. All they can think of in this disaster is "yay! No academy today!" 😂😂

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..

If I were to talk about what other things this teacher exchange programme gave me, it's the bond I have with these lovely people. Fellow Malaysian teachers who are like my siblings now, Indonesian and Thai teachers who are like friends I've known for ages. Totally blessed. Alhamdulillah.

MEANINGFUL 6th WEEK. Lots of new experiences this week in the school and also outside of school.

6th Grade Learning Fair - or simply called "sukaneka" in Bahasa. It's a great thing to see the kids enjoying their time and the effort of all the homeroom teachers is to be applauded.

School Talent Show - Geumjang Elementary School is filled with talented students especially in arts/music. Nanta performance, kukkiwon (taekwondo+dance), kpop dance, belly dance are some of the shows that these lovely kids performed.

Sharing Session with Gyeongju Teachers - A little seminar/talk given by yours truly and partner. We talked about Malaysian culture and a bit on our education system. A great session to discuss the similarities and differences in both systems. :)

Gyeongju Science Fair - We visited Angang Town for this event. Lee Minhyuk, our mentor gave us permission to tag along. The exhibitions are mostly run by elementary and middle school students, with minimal guidance by the teachers.

Yangdong Folk Village - One of UNESCO's Heritage sites. A good place to look at the traditional hanok houses and lifestyles. Too bad not many activities that day, but we had the village almost all to ourselves. ^^
