Monash Japanese Cultural Society

G'day everyone! hope every all of you is doing well.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and uncertainty in our livelihood, we have decided to halt our future club activities until further notice. Monash Japanese Cultural Society was founded back in 2018 with a mission to provide key understandings of Japan's unique culture with an integration of the language classes.

With many support and contributions from our members, we were able to hold various activities every week. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, we are now unable to conduct these activities.

However, we will be open to answering questions about Japan and language-related matters and will provide interesting posts about them!

We know that this is a long overdue message but, We thank everyone for coming to the class and joining our club activities back in 2018 & 2019. We hope to see you guys in Japan soon eh !

Japanese Phrase of the Day

1. Getting lost in Japan (Public Transportation)

Excuse me! Where is Tokyo station?
→ すみません！とうきょうえきはどこですか？
→ Sumimasen! Tokyo eki wa dokodesuka?

すみません(Sumimasen)= Excume me, Pardon me, My bad.

→ Some will instead say ”すいません”, which is also okay to use.
however, すみません is recognised as a "formal" language in Japan.

To that end, we will be covering the varieties of Japanese expression next time!

For those eager Japanese learners who would like to test your knowledge of Japanese, now is your chance.
Application period: 19 August 2019 - 1 September 2019
Test day: 1 December 2019 (Sunday)
