JPTh Community Webinar 13 2022/2023
Heavy metal pollution is a global concern because of natural and human activities. Heavy metals are non-degradable, toxic, and they persist indefinitely in the environment. However, certain microorganisms and plants have naturally developed morphological, physiological, metabolic, and molecular traits to cope with heavy metal toxicity. These traits could be manipulated to detoxify environments polluted with heavy metals.
In this webinar, the roles and mechanisms of microbes and plants in detoxifying heavy metals during the bioremediation process will be discussed.
Let's join the Community Webinar session by Dr. Mohd Izuan Effendi Bin Halmi from the Department of Land Management, Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Topic : Microbial and Plant Roles in Bioremediation of Heavy Metal Polluted Environments
Date : 7 January 2023, Saturday
Time : 10:00 - 11:00 A.M.

Tropical soils, such as those in Malaysia, are highly weathered, have an imbalance of nutrients, and are often heavily eroded due to high rainfall.
Therefore, countries with tropical soils need a highly skilled workforce in sustainable tropical soil management so that soil fertility can be protected, maintained, and improved to obtain high and sustainable crop yields.
Master in Tropical Soil Science is a program specifically designed with a focus on the chemical, biological, physical, and fertility aspects of tropical soils, as well as on the methods of conservation, survey, and classification of tropical soils.
Emphasis is also given to the economic aspects of resources, precision agriculture, and agricultural biotechnology.
