My name is Kitty, and I am a former student of Mrs. Fenandez. I met her when I was 6, and she was my only English teacher for a decade. I was born 29 weeks premature and was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy at 2.

I remember when she used to pick me up twice a week from my grandaunt’s house after school for class. Due to my disability, I couldn’t write till I was about 7; it was thanks to Mrs Fernandez’s determination and dedication that I was able to start writing, although not very neatly before I began attending primary school (she used to grip and slowly guide my hand as I struggled to write). She instilled and honed my passion for creative writing. Additionally, she was one of the inspirations behind my decision to pursue a psychology degree as I saw how much a teacher’s dedication, if given a chance, can significantly impact students' lives, especially those with special needs like myself. When Mrs Fernandez had multiple one-on-one classes at once, Godfrey would step in to help with in-class work or sometimes my school work since I usually went before or after school when I started school until I finished high school. He would help me with math or science homework.

I graduated with my bachelor of Science in psychology in July 2024. I am currently a People Coordinator at Currie & Brown, where I manage the full-circle recruitment for the Asia Pacific offices while also publishing my undergrad dissertation. I hope that I will be able to follow in her footsteps one day and help other special needs children just like she did for me,

To the teacher who saw my potential and took up the challenge of teaching me how to read and write even when everyone gave up, thank you for taking the initial steps to help me become the person and writer I am today.
