Part 2 of our conversation with Marc Chew, 12 year old genius with 13A* for IGCSE!

Marc Chew:
To me, Chemistry was probably the most challenging subject.

It required me to memorise quite a lot of formulas and understand quite a lot of concepts.

I had a lot of topics where I was weak, and I believe that the main way I overcame them was by first doing MCQs and short answers to identify where I was weak.

There were definitely times where I felt stressed.

I believe that almost every student has some level of stress.

To me, it was definitely mostly about balancing my workload at school with daily life, hanging out with my friends and having my hobbies.

I think that the main way I overcame this stress was just by relaxing a bit.

I realised that instead of focusing so much on the end results, I could just consistently study for a bit, use the rest of the time to relax and just achieve.

We speak to a 12 Year Old Genius who got 13A* for IGCSE! His name is Marc Chew 🤓

Marc Chew:
I think that it was definitely about the system in which I study.

So every day, I would take maybe one or two hours and use it to just study.

I believe in consistency more than intensity.

I believe in really just consistency. Even an hour a day really helped me quite a lot to revise.

I think that a typical study day was when I get back home from school.

I study maybe one or two hours a day. I wouldn’t allow too much time.

I still have time to hang out with friends after my studying and do my hobbies.

But during those one or two hours, I stay focused and try as much as I can, so I can relax afterwards.

During exam season, I do more papers and revision.

But the timing was mostly the same.
