In my years of experience designing for various industries, I have come to realise that skillset requirements can vastly differ, from the creation of packaging, magazine, logo, Facebook ad, animation GIFs, to brand identity, character illustration and many more. In most cases, a 10% skill and knowledge in design is sufficient for you to take the first leap. Your skills will eventually grow throughout the journey hence, you are able learn in a more affordable and shorter time for specific needs.
