πŸ“ Activity: Final Reflection on SULAM Project (Chalet Pak Brahim)

🧠 Learning Experience & Theory in Practice

Throughout this SULAM project, we had the opportunity to apply classroom concepts in a real-life context by studying Chalet Pak Brahim. This hands-on experience helped us understand how the 4Ps (Product, Price, Place, Promotion) function together in a small hospitality business. It was interesting to observe how even a simple, triangle shaped chalet can benefit from marketing strategies to attract and retain customers.

πŸ“Š Impact of the 4Ps on the Chalet’s Marketing Strategy
Product: Chalet Pak Brahim offers a peaceful, kampung-style stay with basic amenities that perfect for those who seek simplicity and privacy.

Price: RM130 per night makes it very affordable and attractive, especially for students, families, and budget travelers.

Place: Its quiet location in Perlis gives a rural escape feel, yet it remains accessible and nearby to local attractions area.

Promotion: Currently limited to word-of-mouth and basic social media. There is potential for better promotion through online platforms or partnerships.

This showed us how pricing and unique environment (product) can be the biggest strengths in a small-scale business.

🌟 Personal Insights & Lessons Learned

This project gave us real insight into how rural tourism businesses operate and the challenges they face. I personally learned that good service, a peaceful atmosphere, and affordable pricing can speak louder than big advertising campaigns. It reminded us that even small chalets can grow with the right marketing approach. It also improved our ability to think critically, communicate ideas, and connect theory to actual practice.

🀝 Teamwork & Collaboration

We worked together from the start from planning our visit, collecting data, discussing the 4Ps, and editing the logbook. Our group meeting on 8 June at Bilik Rehat FKTK was very productive. Everyone contributed to finalizing the entries, selecting photos, and polishing the layout. This project taught us how to respect different opinions and work as a team to achieve common goals.

πŸ“ Activity: Behind the Scenes – Site Visit to Chalet Pak Brahim

Throwback to our site visit at Chalet Pak Brahim! It was such a great experience getting to explore the chalet in person and really feel the peaceful chalet vibe.

We checked out the cozy room, air-conditioning, fridge, and other basic amenities, and had a nice chat with the owner to learn about how the business runs. Everyone in the group pitched in and some took notes and asked questions, while others snapped photos and videos to capture the moment.

It was fun working together on-site, bouncing ideas around on how the chalet could improve its marketing and attract more guests. This visit helped us connect the dots between what we learned in class and how things actually work in the real world. Plus, stepping out of the classroom to experience the chalet’s calm surroundings was a refreshing team bonding moment!

πŸ“ Activity: Group Meeting for Editing & Final Touches

This week, our team gathered at Bilik Rehat FKTK to go through our e-logbook together. We focused on editing the content, improving layout, and choosing the best photos to include in our project on Chalet Pak Brahim.

We discussed each entry to make sure the application of the 4Ps (Product, Price, Place, Promotion) was clear, and everyone gave their input on how to improve the flow and reflection parts.

🀝 Team Contribution:

[Fatin]: Edited Entry & organized the photo layout

[Huva]: Checked grammar and helped refine the reflection

[Anis and Aina]: Suggested visual improvements and structure

[Aizat and Naqib]: Finalized formatting and double-checked content

This session helped us realize how small details like layout and word choice can make a big difference. It also showed how teamwork makes editing much more effective and even fun!

πŸ“ Location: Chalet Pak Brahim, Perlis (Remote Research & Site Visit Completed)

This week, we continued our project by exploring the Product and Price elements of Chalet Pak Brahim. The chalet is located in a peaceful, nature-filled setting, ideal for a calm and relaxing stay. Although we couldn't explore the exact GPS location, we focused on observing the facilities and interviewing the owner for key insights.

πŸ› Product Insights:

Spotted the unique triangle-shaped chalet units at Chalet Pak Brahim. All three units share this cozy A-frame design, giving the stay a charming, rustic feel and perfect for a peaceful nature escape. Each unit comes with aircond, bathroom, kettle, towel and mplimentary 3-in-1 coffee to start the day right! β˜•πŸŒΏ

Guests love the calm surroundings, with families appreciating the extra space, and solo/couple travelers enjoying the quiet comfort.

πŸ’‘ Suggestions for Improvement:

βœ… Add one more chalet unit to meet growing demand
βœ… Provide extra towels and basic toiletries for guest comfort
βœ… Offer a mini breakfast option or pantry for added convenience
βœ… Include a guest info booklet with local tips and nearby attractions

πŸ’° Price Insights :

During our short interview with Puan Nurasiah, we learned that pricing is kept affordable to attract local families and travelers. While each chalet is similarly priced, demand tends to peak during school holidays and weekends.

Pricing Strategy: Set at a flat rate for all chalet types to simplify operations and attract budget-conscious travelers.

Perception Impact: The affordable rate positively influences customer satisfaction but may limit revenue potential.

Demand Response: Low prices help maintain steady occupancy, especially among local visitors.

Recommendations:
βœ… Introduce tiered pricing based on chalet features (e.g., garden view or size)
βœ… Offer discounts for weekday bookings or long stays
βœ…Highlight value in promotional materials (free coffee, aircond, peaceful environment)

🧩 Challenges We Faced:

Limited time for a full interview session with the owner
Some details had to be clarified later through WhatsApp

🀝 Team Contribution
All Team Members: Took notes, assisted in basic interview, and captured photos of chalet surroundings

Project Kickoff & Group Discussion: Let the SULAM Journey Begin!

Today officially marks the start of our SMP32103 Services Marketing SULAM project and we’re off to a great start! Our group gathered for our first meeting to get everything in place before heading out for our fieldwork.

Here’s what we achieved during our discussion:

βœ… Went through the project brief, marking rubric, and key tasks so everyone’s clear on what’s expected.
βœ… Divided roles and responsibilities among group members to keep things organized and on schedule.
βœ… Sketched out a rough timeline for our research, visit, blog updates, and final report.
βœ… Researched several homestay options around Perlis and compared them.
βœ… After discussion, we decided on Chalet Pak Brahim as our chosen homestay.
βœ… Started brainstorming ideas on how the 4Ps of Marketing β€” Product, Price, Place, and Promotion can be applied and improved at Chalet Pak Brahim.

πŸ’¬ Why Chalet Pak Brahim?

We picked this homestay because we saw a lot of potential in it from its peaceful kampung setting to areas that could really benefit from stronger marketing strategies. It aligns well with our project goals, and we believe our contributions can make a real impact.

This meeting wasn’t just about planning, it set the tone for what’s ahead. We’re excited to step out of the classroom and into the real world to learn, explore, and contribute to the growth of local tourism in Perlis.

Stay tuned β€” next stop: the actual homestay visit! πŸš—πŸ‘βœ¨
