UMPSA Strengthens Malaysia-Uzbekistan Higher Education Partnership through SAMSACU Delegation Visit

PEKAN, 7 July 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) welcomed a delegation from Samarkand State Architecture and Construction University (SAMSACU), Uzbekistan, to its Pekan Campus as part of its continued commitment to strengthening higher education cooperation and expanding strategic international linkages between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

The SAMSACU delegation was led by Dr. Ozoda Yuldasheva, Advisor to the Rector, and was warmly received by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Herma Dina binti Setiabudi, Director of the Centre for Global Engagement (UMPSA Global). The welcoming session was also attended by the Deans and Directors of the respective faculties and departments, reflecting UMPSA's multidisciplinary approach to fostering meaningful global engagement.

In her welcoming remarks, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Herma Dina highlighted UMPSA's commitment to translating international partnerships into impactful initiatives that create value for students, academics, and researchers. She emphasised that sustained institutional engagement is instrumental in advancing innovation, talent development, research excellence, and knowledge exchange between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

The visit provided an important platform for both institutions to deliberate on a range of strategic initiatives, including student and academic mobility, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), joint research, postgraduate academic programmes, visiting professor initiatives, and international conference participation. Representatives from the respective faculties also explored opportunities to align academic expertise and identify initiatives that can be implemented under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 9 April 2026.

As part of the programme, the delegation visited the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology at UMPSA Gambang Campus. The visit included a briefing on the Faculty's academic offerings, research strengths, specialised laboratories, and industry-driven initiatives. Both institutions also exchanged views on potential faculty-level cooperation in civil engineering, sustainable construction, and related disciplines.

The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening institutional ties through strategic academic and research initiatives. It also reflects UMPSA's ongoing efforts to broaden its international network and reinforce its position as a global technological university, while contributing to stronger higher education cooperation between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

UMPSA Strengthens Strategic Collaboration with SAIT Canada in Advanced TVET and Industry-Driven Education

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its international collaboration through a strategic partnership with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) focusing on advanced Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), applied research, and industry-driven talent development.

The collaboration was further reinforced through the recent visit of the SAIT delegation led by Assistant Vice President of Continuing Education and Professional Studies, Mr. Vis Naidoo, reflecting both institutions’ shared commitment to advancing practical, industry-relevant, and future-ready education.

UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias, stated that the partnership began through a series of strategic engagements in 2025 which focused on training, industry collaboration, applied research, and joint programme development, and was later formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026.

She explained that the MoU has created a strong foundation for both institutions to expand collaboration in key areas, including curriculum mapping as well as the development of TVET modules aligned with industry needs.

Both institutions are also exploring joint initiatives in micro-credentials, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), student and staff mobility, dual-credential programmes, and applied research collaborations, particularly in energy management, aerospace and technical innovation.

UMPSA emphasized that SAIT is a leading applied education institution in Canada, well known for its strong integration with industry and its focus on hands-on, skills-based learning in engineering, technology, energy, aviation, and business education, which aligns closely with UMPSA’s strategic direction.

The Vice-Chancellor added that this partnership supports UMPSA’s aspiration to become the Asia-Pacific Advanced TVET Hub by 2030, as it strengthens the university’s global network with leading technical institutions and enhances its capability to deliver impactful, industry-relevant education.

She further noted that such collaboration is essential in preparing graduates who are not only technically competent but also adaptable, innovative, and capable of meeting global workforce demands in a rapidly changing technological landscape.

Through this partnership, both UMPSA and SAIT aim to bridge academia and industry by enhancing practical learning, expanding global exposure, and developing talent capable of addressing real-world challenges in both Malaysia and Canada.

UMPSA and ITB Deepen Academic & Research Collaboration

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) reinforced its regional strategic partnership agenda through a high-level academic and research engagement with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia.

The engagement marked another significant milestone in strengthening Malaysia-Indonesia higher education cooperation, particularly in advancing research excellence, postgraduate collaboration, talent development and internationalisation initiatives between both institutions.

The ITB delegation was led by Professor Ir. Tirto Prakoso, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology ITB, accompanied by senior academic and international representatives from the university.

The strategic discussion was coordinated by UMPSA Global under the leadership of Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Herma Dina binti Setiabudi, Director of the Centre for Global Engagement UMPSA (UMPSA Global), and spearheaded together with the leadership of the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), led by Professor Ir. Dr Ahmad Razlan bin Yusoff, Dean of FTKPM, and the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA), led by Professor Ir. Dr Mohd Fairusham bin Ghazali, Dean of FTKMA. The Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI) was represented by Ts. Dr. Muhammad Hafiz bin Mazwir, Deputy Dean (Student Affairs & Alumni).

Building on the longstanding collaboration established through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2019, both institutions expressed strong commitment towards expanding strategic cooperation in key areas including postgraduate academic programmes, joint research initiatives, academic mobility, industry-linked collaborations and future double-degree opportunities.

The engagement also served as a platform to strengthen research networking and explore collaborative initiatives in emerging and high-impact fields aligned with global industrial and technological developments.

The delegation subsequently visited the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP) at the UMPSA Gambang Campus, holding engagement sessions with the management team to discuss future collaborations.

Through a series of strategic engagements and laboratory visits, both universities identified significant potential for deeper collaboration that will contribute towards regional knowledge advancement, innovation capacity and the development of globally competent talents.

The visit reflects UMPSA’s continued commitment to positioning the university as a leading regional partner in higher education collaboration while accelerating its global engagement and internationalisation aspirations through impactful and sustainable partnerships.

UMPSA Strengthens Global Ties, Explores Strategic Collaboration for 4+0 Dual Degree Programme with Ludong University

GAMBANG, 4 March 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to advance its internationalisation agenda by exploring a potential strategic partnership with Ludong University (LDU), China. The strategic collaboration meeting, held at the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST), highlighted a shared commitment to developing innovative global education models and promoting academic excellence.

The Ludong University delegation was welcomed by the Director of UMPSA Global, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Herma Dina Setiabudi and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizam Mohmad Kahar, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing (FK), along with the management teams of FIST and FK. The delegation, led by Assoc. Prof. Zhang Yuling, engaged in discussions centred on the proposed 4+0 Dual Degree programme for the Bachelor of Computer Science (UMPSA) and Computing Science & Technology (LDU) programmes. A key feature of the programme includes UMPSA’s “Flying Professors” delivering teaching courses at LDU, showcasing the university’s expertise and teaching quality on an international stage.

In addition to academic collaboration, discussions explored enhancing student mobility based on the principle of reciprocity. Both parties also considered the potential for joint research projects in Computer Science and Materials Science, supported by matching grant mechanisms to encourage innovation and knowledge exchange.

The meeting concluded with a ceremonial exchange of souvenirs between UMPSA and LDU, symbolising the strengthening of ties between the two institutions. Both parties agreed to work closely on drafting and finalising the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the collaboration and ensure a sustainable framework for the dual degree programme.
