[CAPTURING NATURE’S ELEMENTS]

By: Mohd Firrdaus Hj Mahmud

Miracle berry (Synsepalum dulcificum) on a simpur leaf (Dillenia suffruticosa). This bright red delicious berry is miraculous as it can change the perception of your tastebud. when it is consume and the fleshy part of the berry is rub onto the surface of the tongue, the glycoprotein molecule called miraculin will binds and blocks the receptor, however any food that has low ph or sour the miraculin will activate and supercharge the sweet receptors. So any sour food that you eat will taste incredibly sweet. MAGIC!!

The photo submitted was a view of Mt. Makiling in Laguna, Philippines and taken back in 2018. Mt. Makiling is one of the amazing volcanoes in the Philippines, and is currently an inactive stratovolcano. This landform is famous for its legend among the locals. The story was about a woman named Maria Makiling that was sent down to Earth by the gods to help the people of the land in their daily life. This story was passed down for generations as Mt. Makiling looks like a woman in a deep slumber from a view above.

I'm a Filmmaker. Every time I make films, I involve myself with nature. The unpredictable, beautiful, mysterious nature. The shots from this film in particular was special. A story of hope in the midst of hardship, that's why I name this piece "Ma'un". Which means "Rise" in the Kayan language.
