UMS Welcomes Delegation from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU), China 🇲🇾🤝🇨🇳

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), through the Centre for Internationalisation and Global Engagement (CIGE), welcomed a five-member delegation from the College of Agriculture, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU), China, on 21 August 2026 at the Executive Meeting Room (BME), UMS.

The delegation was led by Prof. Zhixing Zhang, Assistant Dean of the College of Agriculture, FAFU, and comprised representatives with expertise in crop breeding and cultivation, crop molecular physiology, and smart agricultural technology.

UMS was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beatrice Lim Fui Yee, Deputy Director of CIGE. The engagement also brought together the top management of Koperasi Terus Kaya Sabah Berhad, providing a platform for discussions on potential areas of collaboration.

The discussion focused on opportunities in tropical agriculture, research and academic mobility, with particular interest in establishing co-supervision opportunities for postgraduate students as well as developing student and academic mobility programmes between UMS and FAFU.

The visit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas and identify potential areas for future collaboration, particularly in strengthening academic and research linkages in tropical agriculture.

UIN SALATIGA STUDENTS COMPLETE INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAM AT UMS 🇮🇩🤝🇲🇾

The Centre for Internationalisation and Global Engagement (CIGE), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), together with the Faculty of Education and Sport Studies, successfully hosted the International Undergraduate Research Program for students from UIN Salatiga, Indonesia, from 10–23 August 2026.

The two-week programme involved 10 students from UIN Salatiga and focused on strengthening students’ academic research and writing skills. Throughout the programme, the students worked closely with UMS supervisors through face-to-face supervision sessions, manuscript review and academic discussions, with the aim of developing and improving their research manuscripts.

The programme began with a welcoming session on 11 August 2026 at Faculty of Education and Sport Studies, UMS, attended by representatives from UIN Salatiga, including Prof. Dr. Rasimin, M.Pd., Dean, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training; Rr. Dewi Wahyu Mustikasari, Ph.D., Head of the English Language Education Department; and Wakhidati Nurrohmah Putri, M.Pd.I., Lecturer.

The programme concluded with a Closing Ceremony on 20 August 2026 at Chancellery Building, UMS. UIN Salatiga was represented by Dr. Wahidin, M.Pd., Purnomo, M.Pd.I., and Guntur Cahyono, M.Pd.

During the ceremony, Certificates of Completion were presented to all 10 UIN Salatiga students by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wardatul Akmam Din, Director of CIGE UMS, marking the successful completion of their programme at UMS.

The programme provided a valuable platform for academic exchange, research collaboration and closer engagement between students and academics from both institutions, while further strengthening the relationship between UMS and UIN Salatiga.

Congratulations to all the students on completing the programme, and thank you to everyone from UIN Salatiga, FPPS and UMS who contributed to its successful implementation.

🌏 UMS Welcomes UNIVA Medan for Academic Collaboration Discussion

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) welcomed a delegation from Universitas Alwashliyah Medan (UNIVA Medan), Indonesia on 18 August 2026 for a courtesy visit and discussion on potential academic collaboration.

UMS was represented by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim bin Hj. Mansor, while the UNIVA Medan delegation was led by its Rector, Prof. Dr. Saiful Akhyar Lubis, M.A.

The delegation also included 15 UNIVA Medan students participating in the International KKN/PKM Programme (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat) in Sabah from 10 to 24 August 2026 which was supervised by PERKIS. The programme focuses on student learning through community engagement and activities with local communities.

Also present were Datuk Haji Jalidar bin Abd. Rahim, Head of PERKIS Kota Kinabalu Division, together with the top management of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Sabah (PERKIS), Kota Kinabalu Division.

The meeting explored potential collaboration in academic cooperation, student and staff mobility, and community engagement programmes, with the involvement of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, UMS.

The visit was coordinated by the Centre for Internationalisation and Global Engagement (CIGE), UMS, in collaboration with PERKIS Kota Kinabalu Division.

We look forward to strengthening the connection between UMS and UNIVA Medan and exploring future opportunities for collaboration. 🇲🇾🤝🇮🇩

🌿 Exploring the rich cultures of Sabah! 🌿

On 20 June 2026, a total of 28 student mobility participants from Brunei, China, Indonesia and Japan joined a cultural outing to Mari Mari Cultural Village.

The students had the opportunity to experience the traditions and lifestyles of Sabah's indigenous communities through visits to traditional houses, cultural demonstrations and performances. More importantly, the trip created memorable moments and strengthened friendships among students from different countries.

Thank you to everyone who joined and made the outing a meaningful and enjoyable experience! ❤️
