Malaysia leads ASEAN’s carbon charge

Dr Wei-nee Chen, Head of Carbon Market, Bursa Carbon Exchange, in an op-ed in StarBiz 7, highlights Malaysia’s role as a regional catalyst for carbon markets. The ASEAN Common Carbon Framework (ACCF) is more than policy – it is a blueprint for interoperability, transparency, and scale.

ASEAN possesses the natural assets to generate high-quality, nature-based carbon credits – protecting over 25 million ha of crucial biodiversity hotspots and preventing up to 835 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent (MtCO2e) emissions annually.

The challenge now? Moving from dialogue to delivery. The opportunity? Positioning ASEAN as a unified force in global carbon markets.
