Malaysia’s First Food Waste & Sourcing Guidebook 🥳

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA), together with WWF-Malaysia, Taylor’s University, and UCSI University, launched Malaysia’s first Best Practices on Waste Management and Responsible Sourcing Guidebook on 30 April 2026. The initiative was officiated by Datin Christina Toh, President of the Malaysian Association of Hotels, with support from Sunway Resort Hotel and The Westin Kuala Lumpur. It addresses Malaysia’s food waste challenge, which reaches about 16,688 tonnes daily, with nearly 60% considered avoidable 🙀

Developed through cross-sector collaboration, the guidebook was led by KLCCBEA and overseen by WWF-Malaysia under CEO and Executive Director Sophia Lim, with research support from Impact Hub Kuala Lumpur (KLBRTF World). Academic contributions came from Taylor’s University and UCSI University, including Associate Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur from Faculty of Applied Sciences 👏🏻

The guidebook combines industry practices, academic input, and behavioural design approaches to support responsible sourcing and food waste reduction 💪🏻

Speaking at the launch, John Burke, General Manager of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, highlighted the importance of aligning industry and education to strengthen sustainability practices. The guidebook is already being integrated into Taylor’s University modules, with UCSI University set to adopt it soon, supporting Malaysia’s goal of halving food waste by 2030 🙌🏻
