Day 1 of the AIADR Tribunal Secretary Course set the foundation for a rigorous and practice-oriented exploration of the tribunal secretary’s role in modern arbitration proceedings.
The programme commenced with a session by Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo, who provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to arbitration, the evolving role of the tribunal secretary, and the legal and ethical considerations that underpin effective tribunal support. The session offered valuable perspectives drawn from both institutional and practical experience within international arbitration.
The second session, delivered by Olga Boltenko, FCIArb Boltenko, focused on the operational and procedural dimensions of tribunal secretary work, including case management, administrative coordination, drafting practices, documentation processes, and the award preparation stage. Participants were exposed to practical insights reflecting the realities of complex arbitration proceedings.
Through a combination of doctrinal understanding and practical application, Day 1 reinforced the increasingly important role tribunal secretaries play in supporting efficient, well-managed, and procedurally sound arbitrations.
AIADR looks forward to the continuation of the programme and the advanced discussions ahead in the upcoming sessions.

What truly shapes the outcome of an arbitration hearing — beyond the written submissions?
Beyond written submissions and procedural arguments lies a far more nuanced process — how tribunals assess credibility, evaluate evidence, interpret advocacy strategy, and deliberate internally before reaching an award.
In today’s increasingly sophisticated arbitration landscape, understanding the tribunal’s perspective is becoming an essential skill for practitioners, counsel, academics, and professionals involved in dispute resolution.
AIADR, in collaboration with Robert Gordon University, is pleased to present the online workshop:
“Insights into the Inner Workings of an Arbitral Tribunal”
This session offers participants a practical perspective into how arbitral tribunals approach hearings, evidence, submissions, and decision-making processes — providing valuable insight for practitioners, counsel, academics, students, and professionals seeking a deeper understanding of arbitration practice from the tribunal’s viewpoint.
The workshop will feature distinguished faculty and speakers, including:
* Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo
* Dr.Johanne Cox
* Professor Arran Dowling-Hussey
Moderated by Dr. Andrey Kotelnikov
