Spent 4 days training a group of 20 adults including two who are vision impaired, one on the spectrum and another who has a mental health challenge. All are adults.
What came out clearly are the following;
1. Almost everyone has a listening disability. With this disability, even the Robert Fulghum approach gets stretched.
2. People with disabilities are not always nice, considerate or responsible. Some use their disabilities as justification for entitled behaviour.
3. Almost everyone has no clear vision, including those in leadership positions.
4. Without vision, there is no direction. Without direction any action is a waste of resources.
5. There is a fine line between leadership and manipulation. In crisis, manipulation is necessary to save lives. The trick is to avoid the temptation to use manipulation as replacement for leadership.
6. Punctuality serves to save time.
7. Almost everyone was distracted. Distracting themselves, distracting others and distracting from the stated objectives.
8. PowerPoint presentations are only to be used as flash cards and collaborative tools. Pen and paper exercises are still the most effective teaching and learning tools.
The takeaway? In order to reach the stated objectives, give longer years breaks and lunch breaks, make sure everyone sleeps early or has downtime and ban the use of laptops and phones during the sessions. Instead stick a camera into the room, record everything and share it on a cloud folder. Use an AI tool to transcribe and summarize and make all presentations available before the sessions.

Vale Jane. Thank you for the love.
The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes. She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.
Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.

What’s the connection between the summer solstice and climate change?
The summer solstice and climate change are connected in several ways, although the solstice itself is not a direct cause of climate change. Here's an explanation of their relationship:
Timing and Length of Seasons:
Climate change is affecting the timing and length of seasons. While the summer solstice date remains relatively constant, the onset of summer-like conditions is changing in many parts of the world.
In some regions, summer-like temperatures are arriving earlier and lasting longer due to global warming.
Temperature Extremes:
The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, typically associated with peak sunlight and warmth.
With climate change, many regions are experiencing more intense and frequent heat waves, particularly around and after the summer solstice.
Arctic Ice Melt:
The summer solstice brings 24 hours of daylight to the Arctic Circle, contributing to sea ice melt.
Climate change is amplifying this effect, leading to record low levels of Arctic sea ice in recent years.
Ecosystem Changes:
Many plants and animals rely on seasonal cues tied to the solstice for important life cycle events.
Climate change is disrupting these patterns, leading to phenological mismatches in ecosystems.
Energy Usage:
The solstice affects energy demand patterns, with longer days typically reducing lighting needs but increasing cooling demands.
Climate change is exacerbating cooling needs, particularly in urban areas experiencing the urban heat island effect.
Agricultural Impacts:
The summer solstice traditionally marks important agricultural milestones in many cultures.
Climate change is altering growing seasons and crop yields, affecting traditional agricultural practices.
Cultural and Social Implications:
Many cultures celebrate the summer solstice with festivals and rituals.
Climate change may affect these traditions as seasonal patterns shift.
Solar Energy Production:
The solstice represents peak potential for solar energy production in the Northern Hemisphere.
As we transition to renewable energy to combat climate change, understanding and maximizing solar potential becomes increasingly important.
While the summer solstice itself is a regular astronomical event, climate change is altering the environmental conditions we associate with this time of year. Understanding these connections can help us better appreciate the complex interactions between natural cycles and human-induced climate change.
