Strengthening our global ties with Uzbekistan 🌍

We were happy to welcome representatives from the Deposit Guarantee Agency of Uzbekistan, led by Mr. Ulugbek Khamdamov, to INCEIF University.

With strong support from their President, Uzbekistan is working hard to grow its Islamic banking industry. Our Deputy President Academic, Prof. Dr. Mansor Ibrahim, led the meeting to discuss how INCEIF and ISRA Consulting can help through training, consultancy, and expert advice.

This visit builds on our close bond with Uzbekistan as they accelerate the integration of Islamic finance within the country and the region. We are proud to support our partners in this important mission! 🤝✨

Uplifting the asnaf community remains at the heart of our mission ✨

We recently sat down with our long-standing partner, Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK), to find new ways to uplift the community through capacity building. Led by LZNK’s Deputy CEO, Dr. Mohd Faisal Mustafa, and our Deputy President Operations (DPO), Mr. Shazmeer Mokhtar, we are strengthening our bond to turn shared expertise into real opportunities for those who need it most. 🤝

Were privately owned real estate for investment purposes and business fixed assets truly central to the late Ottoman economy?

This study finds that such assets were largely negligible for Muslim subjects, helping to explain the limited classical zakat discourse on these forms of wealth.

As modern wealth structures now place far greater weight on real estate and fixed assets, the findings invite renewed scholarly reflection on contemporary zakat frameworks.

How can academic research in Islamic finance better connect with industry realities?
This editorial highlights the renewed focus on bridging theory and practice through the introduction of the Industry Perspectives section in IJIFSD. This initiative provides a platform for industry voices to share practical insights on market developments, regulatory challenges, and innovation in Islamic finance.

Featuring a contribution from researchers at the Islamic Development Bank Institute, the section reflects a broader commitment to ensuring research remains relevant, actionable, and aligned with real-world needs.

As the Islamic finance industry continues to evolve, the editorial invites renewed reflection on how stronger collaboration between academia and industry can support more impactful, practice-oriented outcomes.

“The question is no longer how much is distributed, but how much lives are transformed sustainably.” 🌍

This powerful insight from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor, Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, set the tone for today’s High-Level Roundtable Discussion at Sasana Kijang.

Co-organized by INCEIF University and the World Bank Group, this event highlights our shared commitment to driving systemic change. Partnering with a global leader like the World Bank is a testament to INCEIF’s expertise, further strengthening our position as the Number 1 Business School of the Islamic Economy 2026 (by Salaam Gateway in partnership with DinarStandard).

By moving away from "siloed" methods, we are working toward a holistic system that elevates individuals from vulnerability to long-term resilience. Special thanks to our President & CEO, Prof. Emeritus Dato' Dr. Mohd Azmi Omar, and our distinguished partners for leading this vital conversation.

We’re not just talking about change; we’re building the research and solutions to make it happen. Stay tuned as we continue to bridge the gap between theory and real-world impact! 🚀

Turning Islamic social finance into real, scalable impact.

Our recent Action-Based Learning (ABL) collaboration with M&T Islamic Co. brought together two student consulting groups to explore how Zakat can be strengthened as a system—not just a distribution mechanism in the Philippines.

The outcome goes beyond academic insights. It offers practical directions for industry and society:

🔹 Shifting from short-term aid to “progressive Zakat” that supports long-term socioeconomic upliftment
🔹 Strengthening governance and institutional alignment for a more structured ecosystem
🔹 Leveraging digital solutions to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility
🔹 Integrating Shariah-compliant microfinance to empower beneficiaries toward self-sufficiency
🔹 Enhancing reporting and disclosures to build trust and credibility

These are not just ideas, they are actionable pathways being explored with key stakeholders to drive meaningful change.

This is the essence of ABL: developing solutions that don’t just stay in reports, but contribute to real-world impact.
