Howard and Charmaine first met at a staff orientation in 2016 at MCKL. Howardโan MCKL AUSMAT alumnus from the 1101 cohortโreturned to his alma mater to serve as a university placement counsellor, while Charmaine is a biology lecturer. Little did they know in that moment, they had met the love of their lives ๐
Albeit there was not an instant spark, the two shared a memorable first interaction. Eventually, they exchanged student stories and bonded over workplace matters, which led to more frequent lunches together over time ๐ฉโโค๏ธโ๐จ
Not long after, the pandemic hit and the world went into lockdown in 2020.
Yet distance only made the heart grow fonder. As the world gradually reopened, phone calls turned into dinner dates; dinner dates turned into weekend meet-upsโand their love continued to bloom ๐
A highly requested story (mostly by admin lel) โ it's Howard and Charmaine's story! ๐ฅฐ Read about how shared meals and stories sparked their pandemic romance: mcklalumni.wordpress.com/met-at-mckl-howard-charmaine ๐
Know a couple that met at MCKL? We want to hear their love story! Email [email protected] ๐

Howardโs college life was a memorable experience. He recalled belonging to a relatively small cohort where he formed friendships that lasted to this day โจ
Years later, he returned to his alma mater to serve as a university placement counsellor in 2016. Howard has been part of the University Placement and Alumni Relations Department (UPAD) for almost ten years now, back when it was known as University Placement Unit (UPU). He assisted with student applications to universities in Malaysia and around the world ๐
On 26 March 2026, we said goodbye to our colleague and friend, Howard, who has moved on to another institution. Read his full feature at mcklalumni.wordpress.com/a-journey-that-came-full-circle ๐
UP NEXT: We're featuring a highly requested story โ the love story between Howard and Ms Charmaine Khoo! Turn on notifications so you don't miss out ๐

The path to becoming a doctor is rarely linear. For Anitej, growing up with a doctor and a nurse as parents meant that hospitals were practically his second home ๐ฅSurrounded by bright minds, pursuing medicine felt like destiny โจ
But med school hasnโt been easy. Long hours, high workloads, stress, and little sleep are all part of the journey. Yet, itโs the humbling patient interactions that gave him the clarity that this was his lifeโs calling ๐จโโ๏ธ
In this spotlight feature, Anitej PalurโTop in the World for AS Mathematics and named twice to the Dean's List at UKMโshares the realities of medical school and how the journey sparked a profound personal transformation. ๐ง
