How would you describe your current job? Is it “another day another dollar”? Maybe “thank goodness it’s Friday?” Or, is it more “I love what I do!”
Ever heard of the term "Job Crafting"? According to Timms & Bakker 2010 the definition is:
“an employee-initiated approach which enables employees to shape their own work environment such that it fits their individual needs by adjusting the prevailing job demands and resources”
Intrigued? Want to love your job rather than having another dollar another day or thank goodness it's Friday job? At the we will have Bruno Chaintron on day 2 discussing:
Role crafting - Uncovering potential by optimising roles in organisations.
Bruno Chaintron began his career as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company where he advised senior executives of major international companies on growth strategies
and private equity issues for over 6 years.
From 1993, he held HR, business development and general management positions in banking and finance, technology and distribution for more than 25 years. In these roles, he found that a lot of talent is frequently wasted in organizations. Many people have good ideas for useful things to do, but the system doesn't allow them to implement them.
Since 9/11, organizational development and coaching have been at the heart of Bruno's career. He became Director of Leadership Development for a large international group and then for a major global business school.
Because Bruno believes that it is not enough to simply rethink the organization chart to deal with today's complexity, he started a company called Role Crafting to help executives reinvent roles and responsibilities.
According to him, organizations need to be optimized role by role. To do this, roles need to be redefined to make the most of existing skills and motivations and to adapt to new requirements such as telework.
In 2020, digital technology now makes it possible to reinvent organizations on a role-by-role basis. Role Crafting has developed an innovative digital platform and
collaborative coaching processes that's being used in several European countries to scan and transform roles.
Bruno holds an Executive MBA and an Executive Master in Organizational Development from France and Singapore. He has written a book (Coaching to make change a pleasure), an INSEAD thesis and has contributed to publications including the Harvard Business Review.

This quote by Carol Ann Tomlinson reminds me of a most amazing principal I worked with in the Emirates - Mrs Bakhita Al Neyadi from Atekah Girls School In Al Ain.
We introduced what was seen to be a radical transformation: Subject-based teaching with the girls rotating to their subject teachers' classes rather than sitting in one classroom the whole day. It resulted in an huge outcry from parents who complained about the fact that the girls had to carry their backpacks from room to room. There were lots of emails, SMS messages, angry and excited outbursts during meetings - but Bahkita stood firm. Her words were:
"This is important for the students' learning. This is what is best for them right here and right now. Give it time and your support and you will see the impact on their learning, self-management and responsibility."
The results: The school soared. Teachers embraced the opportunity to create amazing learning environments. The girls loved moving into different learning areas. Yes, it took time to inculcate a new culture of responsibility and punctuality, but with systems in place it soon worked out well and the parents' support grew by leaps and bounds. When I started supporting the school as consultant, parent meetings had a 15% attendance rate. After 2 years of using a variety of strategies we pushed this up to an amazing 95%. Yes, I'm not inflating the figures.
If you are interested in learning more about the strategies we employed to increase parent engagement, let me know.
