🌱🌎 Plastic Pollution

SAVE OUR OCEANS🌊

Malaysia is a significant source of plastic waste in our oceans, contributing three times more mismanaged plastic waste than the United States, despite being only a tenth of the size of the US in terms of population.

Like diamonds, plastics are forever. Every piece of plastic we used is still on our planet today. Only 9% of plastic is recycled each year. That means, plastics are forever. The life cycle of plastic is dangerous. It all starts in our homes, reaches our oceans, harms our ocean wildlife and enters OUR food chain. Yes, you read that right!

Did you know? Around 700 SPECIES are known to be affected by plastic. Over 100,000 marine mammals and 1 million seabirds die every year from ingestion or entanglement in plastic litter. Dumping of plastic waste in the ocean has increased by 10% every year for the past 20 years. No ocean on earth is unaffected by plastic pollution.

Good news is that we can break the cycle. We can all make our lives and oceans with lesser plastic. Start by:

🛍Using your shopping bag
🍾Using a water bottle
🥤Skip the straws

🌱🌎 Air Pollution

An invisible killer 🌬

Air pollution in Malaysia is unique. It is episodic, seasonal and transboundary. Malaysia’s poor air quality was first associated with the haze in 1983, which caused severe disruptions to life.

Sources of air pollution are caused by multiple factors such as:

🏭Industry & Energy Supply
🚕Transport
🕳Waste Management
🏘Household Energy
🌾Agricultural Practices
🌫Dust

Countries cannot tackle air pollution alone. It is a global challenge we must all combat together. If not, children, pregnant women, elderly, people with chronic lung/ heart disease and outdoor workers are impacted severely from it. Short term effects which will lead to long term effects can result in fatality. 1 out of 9 people die from air pollution.

Therefore, let us prevent air pollution by:
🔌 Save energy at home
🚈 Use alternatives to driving
♻️ Use environmental friendly cleaners

Let us do our part in maintaining our air index. Remember the air, WE BREATHE. 🧘🏻‍♀️
