Want your child to read well?
Start with this.

Phonics is not just about sounds.
It’s about how the brain processes language.

Many parents today are asking:

“How do I actually teach my child to read properly?”

And the truth is..
reading is not built through memorising alone.

Before children read confidently,
they first need to:
✨ listen
✨ recognise sounds
✨ connect meaning
✨ build language patterns in the brain

This is why phonics should support the child’s developmental process..
not just become another reading technique.

At KinderKaizen®, our phonics workshops for parents are guided through:
🧠 cognitive development
🧠 language processing
🧠 how children naturally acquire reading and writing skills

Because when parents understand the process,
supporting children becomes more meaningful and less stressful.

Some KinderKaizen® centres offer phonics workshops for parents and caregivers.. because supporting children starts with supporting parents too.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

Many people think play-based learning is only for special needs children.

That’s one of the biggest misconceptions.

At KinderKaizen®, play is not a label.
And it is not “less learning.”

Play is a child’s natural way of developing the foundations that matter most.

Because before academic pressure,
before worksheets,
before performance…

Children need strong developmental foundations first.

At KinderKaizen®, play supports 4 essential areas:

✨ Physical development
✨ Cognitive development
✨ Emotional development
✨ Social development

These are not optional.
These are fundamental.

They shape how children regulate, connect, think, and grow.

Books alone cannot replace this.
Worksheets alone cannot build this.

Because true learning is not just about 3M or early academics.

It’s about developing the whole child
in a way that respects natural growth.

At KinderKaizen®, this is the foundation behind how we guide children through learning.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

What do children really need in their early years?

Not only reading.
Not only counting.
Not only early academic achievement.

Children also need confidence, communication skills, emotional strength, curiosity, independence, and the freedom to learn at their own pace.

We are honoured that Dr Putri Afzan Maria and KinderKaizen® are featured in The Smart Investor Magazine (Mar/Apr 2026, Issue 396), sharing an important perspective on meaningful early childhood education - available exclusively in the physical magazine.

At KinderKaizen® , we believe play is not “just play.”

With the right guidance, play becomes a powerful learning process. Helping children think, explore, communicate, solve problems, and grow with confidence.

Because children are not only preparing for school.

They are being prepared for life.

Weaning off is not about age.
It’s about preparation.

But here’s what many parents miss:

Weaning off is not about forcing.
It’s about preparing the child.

And preparation doesn’t happen overnight.

Children need time to understand
what’s about to change.

That’s where communication comes in.

Talk to them.
Explain what’s going to happen.
Help them make sense of the transition.

Instead of suddenly stopping..
count it down.

“You have 5 more minutes.”
“2 more minutes.”
“Last one.”

This gives the brain time to adjust.

Because when children are mentally prepared,
they respond very differently.

Less resistance.
Less meltdowns.
More cooperation.

Weaning off.. whether it’s milk, bottle, or habits..
is a process of readiness, not pressure.

At KinderKaizen®, we focus on guiding children
through transitions with communication, structure, and understanding.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

“Bermain bukan perkara kecil.”
It is how a child makes sense of the world.

Through her ongoing advocacy in early childhood,
Dr Putri Afzan Maria continues to guide parents
towards a deeper understanding of PLAY..
this time, in collaboration with UmmiToday.

In this session, they will gently explore:
- Why play is foundational, not optional
- How meaningful play can happen without complexity
- “Anak taknak main dengan orang lain”.. understanding the stages of play

Because when we begin to understand,
we respond differently.
We see differently.

✨ Bila kita memahami, kita lebih menghargai.

“My 4-year-old keeps getting bullied at school…”

As parents, this is one of the hardest things to hear.

But at this age,
what looks like “bullying”
is often something else.

At 4 years old, children are still learning
how to be social.

They want to make friends..
but they don’t always know how.

Sometimes it comes out as:
pushing
grabbing
being too rough

Not because they want to hurt..
but because they don’t yet know how to connect.

This is part of their social development journey.

From playing alone…
to playing side by side…
to slowly learning how to play with others.

And that takes time.

What children need at this stage is not labels,
but guidance.

They need adults to:
• mediate
• interpret
• show them how to connect safely

If you have the opportunity,
be the bridge.

Help both children interact.
Guide the play.
Show them what friendship can look like.

Because sometimes,
what looks like conflict…
is actually a child trying to say:

“I want to be your friend… I just don’t know how.”

At KinderKaizen®, we place strong emphasis on
guiding children through social development,
with support, observation, and collaboration with parents.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

Your child can read words just by looking at them?
That's good... and here's how you can make it better.

Some children develop strong print awareness early on.

They’ve seen many books, many words,
and their brain starts recognising the shape of words.

That’s what we call sight reading.

And yes... it’s a good sign.

But here’s where many parents get confused:

Reading should not be built on memorising words by sight.

Because real reading is not about remembering shapes.

It’s about making sense of language.

While the brain can recognise word patterns,
children still need to understand:
• how sounds work
• how words are formed
• how meaning is built

Otherwise, reading becomes guessing or memorising..
not true understanding.

At KinderKaizen®, we don’t train children to memorise.

We guide them to experience language in a way that is:
✨ meaningful
✨ functional
✨ connected to real understanding

Because reading is not just about recognising words,
it’s about understanding them.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

“Res–tau–rant.”
Sound familiar?

This is how many children are taught to read..
by memorising parts of words.

So when parents discover phonics,
it can feel confusing…

“How do I switch?”
“Will my child get mixed up?”

Here’s the good news:

You don’t need to overcomplicate it.

You don’t need more techniques.

You need to go back to what builds reading naturally.

Read aloud.

When you read aloud:
• your child hears the actual sounds in words
• they begin to break words through sound, not memory
• their brain starts connecting sounds to letters

That’s what phonics is.

Not memorising “res–tau–rant”
but hearing how each sound comes together.

Try this at home:
Slow down your reading.
Say words clearly.
Let your child hear each sound.

It may feel different.
Even a little funny.

But this is how children begin to truly understand reading.

At KinderKaizen®, we don’t rush techniques.

We focus on building real understanding through sound, language, and connection.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

Many parents try to teach their 2-year-old to read.
But many start with the wrong process.

What matters most is to .

At age 2, reading doesn’t begin with words.

It begins with listening.

Before children can read,
they need to hear language.
Again and again.

This is where it starts:

Read aloud.
Point to the words.
Let them see, hear, and connect.

Because to a child,
reading often looks like “looking at pictures”.

They don’t yet know
that words carry meaning.

That’s where we come in.

When you read aloud and point to words:
• they hear how language sounds
• they observe how words are formed
• they begin connecting sounds to symbols

They watch your eyes.
They watch your mouth.
They absorb everything.

This is how printing awareness begins.

Not through pressure.
But through exposure.

At KinderKaizen®, we focus on building
strong foundations through listening, connection, and meaningful interaction.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

Many parents rush potty training.
But many start with the wrong process.

What matters most is to ,
in a way that supports your child’s natural readiness.

Potty training doesn’t begin when we decide to remove diapers.

It begins much earlier…
through conversations, modelling,
and helping children understand their own bodies.

“I need to go to the toilet.”
“Do you feel like you need to wee?”
“Let’s try together.”

When we speak, explain, and normalise the process,
children slowly build awareness, confidence, and control.

But many of us didn’t grow up talking this way.

Sometimes we joke.
Sometimes we rush.

Yet what children truly need is guidance, language, and time.

Potty training is not a quick fix.
It’s a readiness built over time.

At KinderKaizen®, we focus on preparing the child..
not pressuring the outcome.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.

Many parents want their children to read well.
But many start with the wrong process.

What matters most is to ,
in a way that follows a child’s natural development.

So when should parents start worrying if a child can’t read?

DP says the answer might surprise you.
It’s not about the child’s age.
It’s about whether we started reading to them.

Reading doesn’t suddenly begin at 6 or 7 years old.

It begins much earlier…
through conversations, storytelling,
and hearing words every day.

When children hear more words:
• their vocabulary grows
• their sentence structure improves
• their brains start recognising language patterns

Books simply add another layer of exposure…
children see the words while hearing them.

And here’s the most important reminder from DP:
It’s never too late to start.
Even if your child is already 7.
Start reading aloud today.
Not tomorrow. Not “when there’s time”.

Because even a few sessions of read-aloud
can already help children begin to pick up words.

At KinderKaizen® and Sri Aria School,
we believe literacy begins with connection and conversation.

This is the process that respects children’s development.

This is how KinderKaizen® supports your children.
