Many parents worry when their child cries easily 😢, gets frustrated quickly 😤, or shuts down during difficult moments.
But this does not mean your child is weak or overly sensitive.
It simply means they are still learning how to manage their emotions.
Resilience is not about being strong all the time 🚫
It is about learning how to recover after emotional challenges 🔄
According to Emily Hamblin 👩👧👦, a life coach and mother of four, children build emotional strength when parents guide them through their feelings rather than dismiss them.
Instead of saying:
“Stop crying” ❌
“You’re fine” ❌
Try:
“I can see you’re upset” 💬
“Do you feel angry or disappointed?”
“I’m here” 🤍
This helps children develop emotional awareness and confidence.
A simple way to support your child is:
Notice the feeling 👀
Name the feeling 🗣️
Help them navigate what to do next 🧭
Over time, this builds resilience, self-awareness, and stronger emotional control.
Children learn more from what you model than what you say 👀
Your calm response becomes their internal voice.
You don’t need to be perfect 💛
You just need to be consistent and present.

Many parents today are increasingly concerned about anxiety in children.
You may notice your child:
• Overthinking small situations
• Avoiding new challenges
• Getting overwhelmed more easily
• Frequently worrying about “what if something goes wrong”
And naturally, the first questions that come to mind are:
“Do I need to send my child for therapy?”
“Should I consider medication?”
While professional support is important when needed, what many parents may not realise is that there are simple, evidence-based strategies that can be practised daily at home to support your child’s emotional well-being.
Based on insights from Dr. Mary Wilde, an integrative pediatrician and creator of the Resilience School, childhood anxiety is not just about thoughts — it involves the whole child:
🧠 Thoughts
💛 Emotions
🧍 The body
This is why simply telling a child to “calm down” or “stop worrying” is often ineffective. In moments of anxiety, children are not able to process logic clearly. What they need first is emotional safety and connection.
A helpful approach parents can practise is:
1️⃣ Connect first
Acknowledge their feelings:
“I know this feels hard”
“I’m here with you”
2️⃣ Calm the body
Use simple techniques such as deep breathing, gentle movement, or even a short pause to help regulate their emotions
3️⃣ Guide their thoughts
Once they are calm, gently help them reframe the situation and build confidence
In addition, incorporating simple daily practices can strengthen your child’s emotional resilience over time:
• Mindfulness activities
• Physical movement such as yoga or play
• Creative expression like drawing or role play
• Breathing techniques
These approaches support the child holistically — addressing both emotional and physical responses to stress.
It is also important to recognise that if anxiety is not supported early, it can gradually impact a child’s confidence, willingness to try, and overall well-being. Early guidance, however, can help children develop resilience and a stronger sense of self.
At our school, we believe that education is not only about academic success, but also about equipping students with the emotional skills they need to navigate challenges confidently.
As parents, we don’t need to have all the answers.
But we can start with one powerful shift:
👉 Connection over correction
Because when children feel understood and supported, they are better able to grow, adapt, and thrive.
