Forensic Engineering Centre Recognised with Special Mention Award (Engineering & Technology) at PMI Malaysia Chapter’s Project Management Awards 2025

The Forensic Engineering Centre (FEC) proudly marks a significant milestone following its recognition at the Project Management Institute (PMI) Malaysia Chapter’s, Project Management Awards 2025 held on 6th December 2025 at the Sime Darby Convention Centre. The award was awarded in recognition of a project focusing on a comprehensive structural assessment of a Johor Port jetty and associated wharf structures. The assessment was undertaken to evaluate the structural integrity, operational performance, and long-term serviceability of the marine infrastructure under prevailing operational demands and environmental conditions.
The project was delivered through a robust multidisciplinary framework, integrating expertise in material and structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, robotic underwater inspection technologies, professional diving operations, surveying and drone-based data acquisition, as well as advanced reliability assessment methodologies. These integrated efforts enabled a holistic evaluation of the structural condition and remaining service life of the port facilities, supporting evidence-based decision-making for asset management, maintenance planning, and long-term operational sustainability.

Representing the Forensic Engineering Centre, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Izni Syahrizal Ibrahim and Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Noor Nabilah Sarbini received the Special Mention Award under the Engineering and Technology Category. This recognition is particularly significant given the competitive nature of the awards, where only 44 projects were shortlisted as finalists from a total of 65 submissions invited for the vetting process. FEC’s achievement stands alongside prominent industry and institutional players, including Petronas, Telekom Malaysia, Johor Land Group, the KLIA Aerotrain project team and Universiti Sains Malaysia, among others.
The Forensic Engineering Centre would like to express its sincere appreciation to Johor Port Berhad for the trust and collaboration extended throughout the project, as well as to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for providing the opportunity, institutional support, and enabling ecosystem that facilitated the successful ex*****on of this initiative. Special acknowledgement is also extended to Uni-Technologies Sdn. Bhd. for the technical support, as it played a vital role in the delivery of the project.

This recognition highlights FEC’s expertise in structural and forensic engineering and further reinforces UTM’s position as a leading institution in engineering research, innovation, and professional consultancy services, strengthening university–industry collaboration and impactful real-world applications.
Congratulations to the entire project team on this well-deserved recognition.
