๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ข ๐๐๐ฒ๐, ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ โ Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano) and the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, has successfully organized a STEM community engagement program titled โGreen Chemistry for Life Sustainabilityโ at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pulai Jaya.
The program, involving 3 lecturers, 67 UTM undergraduates from the Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) program, and 38 Form Four students, aimed to raise awareness of Green Chemistry and environmental sustainability while nurturing studentsโ interest in science and innovation.

The day-long program featured a series of engaging activities โ interactive talks, live demonstrations, and educational games โ emphasizing the practical applications of Green Chemistry in daily life. Among the highlights were the โNature Dye Experiment,โ โEco-friendly Plastic (DES) Demonstration,โ and โChemical Poison or Organic Solution?โ talk, all designed to enhance scientific curiosity through experiential learning. Participants learned how simple, eco-friendly approaches can contribute to a cleaner environment and sustainable living practices.

Post-program surveys revealed significant improvements:
- 61% increase in students finding science interesting.
- 70% improvement in understanding Green Chemistry concepts.
- 93% of participants agreed the program motivated them to pursue science actively.
The results clearly indicate that this initiative succeeded in transferring knowledge and inspiring sustainable thinking among young learners.

Johor Bahru, 15 August 2025 โ To spark excitement and curiosity in science among primary school students, a STEM program titled โMini Science Camp 2025โ was organized by the Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano), Ibnu Sina Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (ISI-SIR), Faculty of Science (FS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), together with SJK(C) Woon Hwa, Kangkar Pulai, Johor on 6 August 2025 from 7.30 am to 10.00 am.
The involved UTM committees were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lee Siew Ling, Programme Director, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. See Hong Heng, Vice Programme Director, Dr. Koh Meng Hock, Head of Programme Unit, Ms. Nur Isarah binti Che Raimi, Secretary, Ms. Nurul Adhah binti Saini, Head of Publicity Unit, Mr. Shahrul Nizam Mahmood, Head of Technical Unit, and Mr. Mohammed Rafiq Aziz, Technical Unit. Meanwhile, the postgraduate and undergraduate students involved as program committees were Lee Ching Shien, Program Chair, Ling Chui Min, Gan Kai Xuan, Tan Chee Chuan, Lua Yu Hui, Bon Shin Er and Ho Jin Hong.
Led by Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Lee Siew Ling, the STEM program, part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative for CSNano, aimed to spark curiosity and build motivation for science among primary school students. A total of 52 students from Primary 4 and 6 at SJK(C) Woon Hwa, Kangkar Pulai, Johor took part in engaging hands-on experiments and demonstrations on topics such as Archimedesโ Principle, carbonation reactions, and surface tension. The Mini Science Camp was uniquely designed, with Primary 6 students serving as facilitators for their younger peers, guided by the moderators from Faculty of Science, UTM. These interactive sessions not only sparked curiosity but also helped students connect scientific concepts to real-life applications. Following each demonstration, participants conducted the experiments themselves, providing a fun and hands-on learning experience.
Both the organizing committee and the school administration expressed their satisfaction with the success of Mini Science Camp 2025. The hands-on experiments and interactive sessions of the program strengthened the students' interest in and understanding of science, inspiring them to explore beyond the classroom. Mini Science Camp 2025 exemplified CSNanoโs and the Faculty of Scienceโs ongoing commitment to advancing science education in local communities, nurturing curiosity, and cultivating the next generation of scientists.

Courtesy Visit of CSNano UTM to Sunway University and Management & Science University on Research Collaboration
Assoc. Prof. Dr. See Hong Heng, Research Fellow of the Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), recently paid a courtesy visit to Prof. Dr. Norfilza Mohd Mukhtar, Vice President of Research at Management & Science University (MSU), and Prof. Dr. Raja Affendi Raja Ali, Dean of the Sir Jeffrey Cheah Sunway Medical School, Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences, Sunway University.
The visits aimed to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the institutions. Discussions focused on advancing a trilateral research partnership to assess the risk exposure of microplastics on human health and the environment, aligning with the shared commitment to sustainable and impactful scientific research.
