We were this morning planting our food forest! Brinjal, lemon, turmeric, coconut (takes TWENTY YEARS until the first coconut drops 😳), banana, water spinach, thai basil… so many species!! Feel very privileged again to be able to learn how to do this, so we can spread these approaches all over the place!
Next part… building a mud brick café!!

Another fantastic volunteer session at [Mitigation * Adaptation * Resilience Space] with 🧡
We finally finished putting all the composting materials into place and can see and smell the telltale signs of nature at work making black gold: healthy, nutrient-rich soil for our food forest!
You’ll notice there’s a range of youth to senior in our MARS community - we truly believe we can’t have only the old growing their own food. Preparing space and materials, composting, gathering seeds, sowing, nurturing, harvesting - these are essential skills for all humans in the midst of a climate emergency. To achieve it we need all of our ideas, expertise, dreams, questions and problem solving together to achieve something that will sustain. Diversity, communication, openness, patience, action! - altogether really is our strength.
We also had a team meeting with architect Peipei where we discovered a design process that is truly thoughtful about sustainable, local, deeply meaningful and not just deciding on what ‘looks good’ but instead on what really is the best for our people and planet, and tells our genuine story. More details to follow soon…
