[Find out whether your child is equipped with the skills to start learning in the first place]

🚩 bright yet unable to catch up with studies?
🚩 behind their peers despite tuitions and working very hard?
🚩 easily distracted, forgetful, lack of focus and concentration?
🚩 spent too long preparing for Ejaan/Ting Xie/Spelling?
🚩 better in languages but falling behind in others, eg. Math/Science or vice versa
🚩 so demoralized and close to giving up doing homework?
🚩 switched off when learning something new?

Above are some of the typical signs of students who are struggling to learn, fail to understand or comprehend what was taught in class or what is intended for them to learn in class. They usually hide behind symptoms we described as 'lazy', 'not focused' or 'always forget'.

These students who struggle to pay attention or complete a task usually feel discouraged when studying or completing homework. As a consequence of their lack of confidence, they may begin to avoid work that 'seems' complicated or challenging or parents may mistaken it for behavioral issues.

Excerpts:
In Malaysia, children aged 10 to 14 bore the highest share of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) linked to mental health problems compared with all other age groups, at 21%.

Dr Anasuya said anxiety often goes undetected in schools because affected children tend to be quiet, compliant, and academically focused.

“These are the children who retreat, who don’t have many friends, and teachers may not see that as a problem.”

She warned that anxiety learned in childhood can become a lifelong pattern if not addressed early.

“When you are anxious as a child, you’re very likely to be anxious as an adult.”

“For infants and toddlers, the science is clear – no screen time at all,” he said, adding that parents should also be mindful to limit screen time for pre-schoolers."
“We should not use phones as a babysitter, just to keep our children quiet or occupied.”
"Children should be encouraged to spend more time outdoors to play, make friends and be active."
“Let them run around in the parks and playgrounds. Give them space to explore on their own, to try, take some knocks, and get back up again."
“Through it all, they can learn, grow and gain confidence in the real world, not the virtual one,” he said.
