Aim and Scope

SINERGI has promoted lateral and new thinking in the field among scholars, practitioners, readers, and students. The defining feature of SINERGI is its commitment to multidisciplinary approaches to the study of strategic and defence and peace, conflict, security, development, and international affairs. The editors welcome articles that challenge our historical and contemporary understanding of state and non-state actors’ efforts to achieve political ends through the application of military, as well as diplomatic and conflict resolution means; articles on contemporary strategic, security, international affairs and theoretical controversies of enduring value; and of course articles that explicitly combine the historical and theoretical approaches to the study of modern warfare and strategy, defence management, new security and global issues in international relations. Given the recent outbreak and prolonged lockdown periods from the COVID-19 pandemic, there are more instructive opportunities to consider security disruptions, livelihood hardships and recession consequences, as well ongoing security nexus policy debate over Malaysia’s defence white paper, the whole-state- and whole-society-approaches to defence and security, IR 4.0, 5G, big data and digital currency. We welcome articles focused on Malaysia and Southeast Asia and broadly focused on other regions and a topic of defence, security, strategy, politics, and international affairs.
