Parenting Tips: How to Encourage Your Child to Be a Leader This School Year 🎒✨

Leadership doesn’t always mean being the loudest voice in the room. It can look like sharing an idea, standing up for someone, solving a problem, asking questions, or simply being the person others can count on.

This school year, encourage your child to:

✨ Let their voice be heard. Ask for their opinions and encourage them to share their ideas.

đź’Ş Take on new responsibilities. Leadership grows when we give kids opportunities to make decisions and take ownership.

đź’¬ Practice speaking up. Help them build confidence by reminding them that their thoughts and ideas matter.

🤝 Lead with kindness. Teach them that great leaders listen, support others, and help everyone feel included.

🎯 Learn from challenges. Remind them that mistakes are opportunities to grow, adapt, and try again.

At MPC, we believe every girl has the ability to lead. Sometimes, they just need the encouragement and confidence to use their voice. đź’—

Meet Luke Norris, a member of the Madam President Camp Board and a leader who believes in the power of authenticity, service and grit.

When asked to describe himself in three words, Luke chose Innovator. Disruptor. Coach. His definition of leadership? “Being authentic and serving others so they can do their best work.”

If Luke could teach every MPC camper one life skill, it would be grit. Life will have its ups and downs, but perseverance through the hard moments helps us build character and resilience.

Luke joined the MPC Board because he has personally benefited from people who invested in his growth and opportunities that helped him develop as a leader. He believes it’s more important than ever to create pathways for more women to have seats at the tables where decisions are made.

We’re grateful to have Luke helping us inspire the next generation of women leaders! 💜

September is National Self-Care Awareness Month! đź’—

At Madam President Camp, we believe that strong leaders need to know how to care for themselves, too. Self-care can look like speaking kindly to yourself, taking a break when you need one, setting healthy boundaries, spending time with people who support you, and doing things that help you feel like you.

As we begin a new month, we’re encouraging girls to remember: Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s an important part of becoming the confident, resilient leader you’re meant to be. ✨

Happy Women’s Equality Day! 💜

Today, we celebrate the women who have paved the way—and the girls who will continue moving us forward.

Here’s to raising voices, building confidence and creating a future where every girl knows she belongs at the table.

The impact of camp doesn’t end when the week does. 💜

One of our favorite parts of Madam President Camp is hearing from parents about the changes they’ve noticed in their campers since attending camp.

Parents have shared that their girls are:

✨ More confident in who they are and what they have to say
🗣️ More willing to speak up and share their ideas and perspectives
🌎 More aware of their communities and the issues and current events happening around them

These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. At MPC, girls aren’t just learning about leadership—they’re building the confidence, communication skills and civic awareness to use their voices and make an impact.

The week may be over, but the leadership journey is just beginning. đź’ś

This summer, campers learned that their words have power. đź’–

Through a meaningful activity, campers created hearts filled with words that help them feel included, supported, and valued. From kindness and encouragement to friendship and belonging, these words served as a reminder that what we say can make a difference.

Because sometimes, a few powerful words can help someone feel like they truly belong. ❤️

This summer, we were so grateful to have UMB volunteers join us at Madam President Camp! đź’™

Associates from the UMB Women’s Business Resource Group volunteered at both Northland Career Center and the Truman Library, bringing their time, energy, and leadership to our campers. From hosting a panel discussion and helping campers create vision boards to making ballots for our famous 🍪 Cookies vs. 🍦 Ice Cream debate, they jumped right in and helped make camp even more memorable!

Thank you, UMB, for investing in the next generation of leaders and helping our campers learn, grow, and use their voices. We appreciate you! đź’™

Learn More. Speak Up. Get Involved. 📣

On Day 4 of Madam President Camp, campers focused on Civic Engagement and discovered how they can make a difference in their communities.

Through activities and conversations, campers explored three important ways to be civically engaged:

📚 Learn More — Understand the issues and what is happening in your community.
🗣️ Speak Up — Use your voice to share your ideas and advocate for what matters to you.
🙌 Get Involved — Take action and find ways to make a difference.

Civic engagement isn't just about the future—it starts with learning, using your voice, and taking action today. We're proud to help our campers see that their voices matter! 💙
