Para ver un film cinematográfico se requiere que los fotogramas sean proyectados a una cadencia de 24 por segundo; así producen la ilusión de movimiento. Esto es debido a que la sucesión tan veloz de imágenes bloquea la capacidad del cerebro de verlas como fotografías separadas. Esta persistencia en la visión hace que el cerebro mezcle estas imágenes dando la sensación de movimiento natural.
