🥜 ¿Cacahuate, cacahuete o maní?

If you've ever been confused by the different words for "peanut" in Spanish, you're not alone!

In Mexico, we always say cacahuate, and here's the cool part: it comes directly from Nahuatl. The original word tlālcacahuatl literally means "earth cacao" 🌱

Meanwhile, maní traveled a different path, it comes from Taíno, the indigenous language of the Caribbean.

Same little legume, two completely different indigenous origins. That's the beauty of Latin American Spanish! 🌎

Swipe through to learn:

→ Which word is used where
→ The indigenous roots of each term
→ A quick reference guide to sound like a local

Save this post for your next conversation about snacks!

At AudioHabla, we teach you the Spanish that's actually spoken in Mexico, not textbook Spanish. Follow along for more authentic Mexican vocabulary!
