Creating culture, practicing Spanish 🍃🪻
This week, our students took part in a special Semana Santa workshop, where they learned about the traditions of Oaxaca and created an Altar de Dolores.
From preparing each detail of the altar to understanding its meaning, students experienced this beautiful tradition in a hands-on way.
To complete the experience, they presented their altars in Spanish, practicing new vocabulary and sharing what they learned with the group.

One museum that often surprises our Spanish students in Oaxaca is the Museo de Filatelia (MUFI).

Spanish teacher Olga Gabriela V., who has taught at Instituto Cultural Oaxaca for more than 15 years, often recommends this museum because it offers much more than a collection of postage stamps.

Students love the peaceful courtyard, where you can sit, read, work, or simply enjoy the afternoon in the historic center of Oaxaca.

Many visitors are also fascinated by the letters written by Frida Kahlo that are part of the museum’s collection.

When we explore this museum in our cultural conversations, students often describe the pieces that catch their attention and share what they find most interesting about the exhibitions.

It’s a wonderful reminder that learning Spanish can happen everywhere — even in the quiet corners of a museum courtyard.
