Paola Velasco Santos
"My latest project is concerned with the hydro-political cycle in central Mexico, were the Atoyac river surfaces, and how power, and water flows have reconfigured socionatural relations, enabled and inhibit certain economic activities like firefly ecotourism and Payment for Ecosystem Services programs, and structured a social field where human and nonhuman subjects, like fireflies and rural dwellers, are re-produced through infrastructure, and neoliberal discourse and practice. My main interest is to advance ethnographic inquiries on the mutual production of society and nature, and how these entanglements are shaped by historically and spatially situated political economies, and the local expression of capitalist relations."
