The contrast of the northern lights by plain sight and by our phone cameras reminded me of how often our clients uncover something MAGICAL and completely LIFE CHANGING beneath the surface of all the should's . . . “I should be eating less sugar . . . Should stop eating junk . . . Should work out more . . . Should go plant based . . . should, should, should.
If you’re in this powerful season we call “mid-life”, age affords you a NEW opportunity. It’s a chance to transform your behaviors and feel completely confident in how you take care of yourself. But, it doesn’t start with all the “right” answers. It begins with a longing so deep you can no longer ignore it. That longing is for YOU!
You finally have time to look around at your career you’ve built, the kids you’ve raised and the life you’ve given everything to and ask, “What now?”
The few who truly answer this question, enter into a season of deconstruction and creation that carries them into their second half of life with more confidence, hope and inspiration than they ever had in their younger years.
The body is honored, no longer fought against for the sake of a figure or forgotten for the sake of being too busy.
The mind is clear, free, untangled.
The heart is no longer ignored or doubted but discovered and trusted as a wise leader who creates wholeness, uniting body and mind, purpose and fulfillment.
A collaboration of your Body - Mind - Heart is how you go deeper!
Deeper uncovers your VALUES that are being ignored within all the stuff you’re trying to do to get “healthier”.
Deeper awakens an inner DRIVE towards freedom, empowerment and confidence that no longer wants to be attached to your weight or perfect eating and work out plan.
Deeper fuels MOTIVATION that allows you to sift through all the questions on the surface and put into practice the actions that will create a healthy body and mind that facilitate the life you want.
If you want to go Deeper today, we invite you to put all those nutrition and health questions on pause, for a moment and define your VALUES. (yes, like put them down on paper - old school)
What really matters to you?
What are your hills to die on?
What fires you up and makes you feel alive?
Look at that list. This is YOU.
Look for values that are being ignored or even suppressed. What are the scenarios, environments, or relationships that represent this conflict?
Could it also be that the scenarios in which you feel the most angst with how you’re eating and taking care of yourself are somehow related to these areas of conflict?
For Example:
The healthcare professional who eats junk food on shift because he needs something to help him get through his job. Going deeper reveals that he feels like he cannot possibly make a real difference in people’s health. His values of being important, effective, and valued are in conflict. But he just thought he had sugar cravings.
The mom who’s kids have left for college and she has time now to get in shape and take great care of herself struggles to find the motivation. So she tries plans, programs, gyms and nothing sticks. Could it be that her values are in conflict now that her role as a mother has drastically changed?
The executive who has transitioned to a home office finds the kitchen is way too close to their office. They try to adhere to their eating and exercise plan like they did when they went to work and would go to the gym afterwards. But now, the snacks and couch feel more like the daily routine. On the surface, they are asking nutrition and exercise questions. Going deeper, there’s a longing for a bigger change.
With my coaching team at Three Point Balance we go DEEPER. We help our clients connect with all the wonderful and powerful potential beneath the surface of their lives.
Our coaching integrates one’s wellness journey, so that our clients are no longer bouncing around in confusion, overwhelm and frustration. We make nutrition about their values. We co-create daily wellness practices that aren’t just about being healthier, but make them feel alive! We go deep into self awareness in order to build new practices and dissolve old ways of being that hold them back.
It’s incredible what can change on the surface when we feel truly connected to ourselves, our values, our purpose and place in this world. In mid-life, we SHOULD be questioning these things. This is a spiritual journey, that if integrated into eating, exercise and caring for yourself can lead to a life that finally feels just right!
