Miguel Nunez Flores, one of our new members is having his first solo show of 17 watercolor pieces at the cultural center in Chapala. This is located in the old building just on the left hand side of the intersection of Hidalgo and the Carreterra as you enter Chapala.
The theme for his show is about the changes created in the environment due to the need of transportation such as cars. Please see his statement below in spanish. The opening is this evening Friday Jan 13th, 2017 at 7pm. The show is on until the middle of February.
CHAPALAJARA
La ciudad lineal nace a partir del automóvil, transforma un paisaje natural en un paisaje antrópico comenzando por el paisaje agrícola, agroindustrial, industrial y como consecuencia asentamientos subhumanos, en un paisaje monopolizado, fruto de nuestro sistema tardo- capitalista, desnudando la pobreza y la falta de sentido común de la existencia humana, vivimos para sostener un sistema insostenible, transformamos a un exceso de velocidad que destruye la simbiolis natural entre el hombre y el paisaje digna de una cultura ancestral, en una acción ineficiente de la tecnología al servicio de la calidad de vida, el paisaje carretero esta gobernado por una construcción dispersa de elementos agenos a un lenguaje aceptable ( instalaciones eléctricas, industriales, cadenas de tiendas como el Oxxo y el seven eleven, gasolineras Pemex, viviendas inhumanas, anuncios carreteros, etc), pareciendo que todos los elementos coexisten para generar un absoluto desorden: dispersión entre las construcciones, carencia de diversidad, impermanecnia, y por supuesto nada de memoria (salvo algunos reductos frutos un pasado mas congruente), es el paisaje de la antipolis, al antipaisaje, el paisaje suburbial, el paisaje lineal………. Ante esta inconguencia urbana (la cual llamamos desarrollo) solo nos queda contemplar las sobras de un paisaje natural, la nostalgia de algunos pequeños islotes de un paisaje destinado a ser devorado por el sistema transformador, es el único sistema sostenible, autosuficiente y rentable, no necesita la mas minima intervención humana
Also tonite are two other openings with several of the Lake Chapala Members. Artist Inak is in the Plein Air Show at Galeria Sol Mexicano 3- 6pm as well as in the opening at Las Pena Santos Rico. Artists Lois Schroff, Sonia Mocnik and Winnie Hunt are in the Show at Las Pena Santos Rico - 4 to 6pm.
