At the Human Ecology Society, we believe every graduate's journey can inspire. Through our Alumni Spotlight series, we celebrate graduates using the knowledge and skills gained at the University of Malawi to make a positive impact. Today, we feature Loveness Phiri, whose story shows how classroom ideas can transform communities.
Loveness Phiri is a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition programme at the University of Malawi. After graduating, she became the Founder and President of Nutrition Champions, a youth led organisation promoting nutrition education and healthier communities.
During her time at the University of Malawi under the Department of Human Ecology, Loveness noticed a gap between classroom nutrition concepts and the real nutrition challenges faced by communities.

Rather than accepting the challenge, she turned it into an opportunity.
Together with her colleagues Kelvin, Annie Lindiwe Funsani, Faith Kayange, Geetwo, Brave Nkhoma, Mtendere Banda, and others, she founded Nutrition Champions. What began as an idea during a Community Nutrition class trip to Jali in Zomba in 2023 has grown into a youth led movement offering practical nutrition education to communities.

Loveness' journey reminds us that university education is about more than earning a degree. It is about applying knowledge, embracing leadership, and creating impact.
The Human Ecology Society congratulates Loveness Phiri and wishes her continued success in her nutrition leadership journey.
