The School of Built Environment constitutes one of the academic entities within the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), formerly acknowledged as the Polytechnic. The school encompasses three distinct departments, namely Architecture, Land Economy and Quantity Surveying, as well as Land Surveying and Physical Planning. Its primary objective revolves around cultivating a cohort of adept professionals geared towards the real estate sector in Malawi and beyond, adeptly harnessing state-of-the-art surveying instruments and software. Furthermore, the school is actively engaged in both academic and professional research endeavours spanning diverse facets of the built environment, including urban planning, housing, infrastructure, and environmental management.

In line with its objectives, the school is orchestrating a symposium characterized by the thematic focus "Sensitizing Society: The Role of the Built Environment on Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change." This symposium will congregate an assemblage of experts, practitioners, policymakers, and students with the intent of dissecting the challenges and prospects inherent in crafting robust and sustainable built environments amidst the dynamic contexts of climate change and natural calamities. Additionally, the symposium will provide a platform for spotlighting select innovative projects and solutions supported by the school.
