🎉 Congratulations, Yanjanani Banda! 🎉

We are proud to announce that this outstanding map “Lithology of Mulanje District & 2025 Vegetation Health for Mulanje Mountain Forest Reserve” has won 3rd place in a national mapping competition organized by Spatial Girls.

Created by Yanjanani Miston Banda, founder of Spatial Minds, this map demonstrates exceptional skill in geospatial analysis, cartographic design, and environmental visualization. It highlights the power of GIS in understanding landscape geology, vegetation health, and conservation planning for one of Malawi’s most important forest reserves.

As MUST GIS Society, we celebrate this achievement as a reflection of the growing strength, creativity, and excellence within our geospatial community. Yanjanani Miston Banda 🌍✨

🌍 Mapping the Central Region: Student Excellence in Action

Meet Tedson Jaffet, a second-year Geographic Information Systems (GIS) student at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), who has created a detailed Soil Map of Malawi’s Central Region as part of his Cartography coursework.

This beautifully crafted map showcases the distribution of different soil groups from arenic and eutric-fer to vertic and lithic types revealing the diverse soil patterns that shape the Central Region’s agricultural potential. The map demonstrates Tedson’s growing mastery in spatial data visualization, map design, and symbol classification, all key components of professional cartography.

By applying GIS principles learned in class, Tedson transformed raw spatial data into a meaningful and visually compelling representation of Malawi’s natural environment. His work reflects the power of GIS not just as a technical tool, but as a bridge between geography, environment, and sustainable development.

👏 The MUST GIS Society celebrates Tedson and all emerging geospatial innovators who are mapping a better future one layer at a time!
