The School of Nursing is set to host the inaugural Research Day on 29th May 2026 at the Confucius Institute Hall, Lilongwe Upper Campus.
The Research Day will be held under the theme, “Sustaining a Research Culture in Nursing: Evidence, Excellence, and Impact,” the conference will bring together researchers, practitioners, students and stakeholders to showcase innovations, share evidence-based practices and strengthen the future of nursing research.

Today, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) joined the nation in commemorating International Nurses Day, celebrated annually on May 12.
Led by Deputy Vice Chancellor Associate Professor Belinda Gombachika, KUHeS staff took part in the national commemoration held in Nsanje under the theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
Speaking during the ceremony, Minister of Health and Sanitation Madaliso Baloyi commended nurses for their critical role in safeguarding the nation’s health.
“We all end up at the hospital at some point in our lives, and this shows just how important your role is. Today is a moment to pause, celebrate you, and commend you for the dedication, resilience, and commitment you continue to demonstrate in serving this country,” she said.
The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation Dr. Dan Namarika echoed the Minister’s sentiments and assured health workers of the government’s commitment to improving their working conditions.
Speaking on behalf of nurses, National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives (NONM) President Shouts Simeza emphasized the need for continued investment in the nursing profession to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.
Among the notable dignitaries present were Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Honourable Charles Chilambula, MP, and Walter Nyamilandu Manda, Member of Parliament for Nsanje South West.

Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) is implementing activities under the Beginnings Fund, which aims to strengthen Human Resources for Health (HRH) training in Malawi. As part of this initiative, scholarships are being offered to eligible candidates to undergo training in Bachelor of Science in Neonatal Nursing programme at KUHeS.

On 4th May, 2021, College of Medicine (CoM) and Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) began a new journey together. The two formed Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). Today, we look back with pride on five years of growth, resilience, excellence and success.
KUHeS celebrates five years of shaping health professionals, advancing research, and serving communities across Malawi and beyond.
From classrooms and laboratories to hospitals and communities, every student, lecturer, researcher, clinician, and member of staff has played a part in shaping this story.
