🌍 World Bipolar Day

Today, we recognise World Bipolar Day and raise awareness about bipolar disorder — a condition that affects millions of individuals and families worldwide.

As social workers, we understand the importance of early identification, evidence-based intervention, and ongoing psychosocial support. We also recognise the impact that stigma can have on help-seeking and recovery.

Let us continue to promote informed conversations, ethical practice, and compassionate care — while advocating for accessible mental health services and support systems.

Social work is a profession rooted in care, empathy, and service — yet the emotional cost of constant giving is often overlooked. Daily exposure to trauma, loss, abuse, and crisis can quietly take a toll on our mental and emotional well-being.
Self-care is not an indulgence; it is a professional responsibility that allows social workers to practise ethically, sustainably, and with integrity.
This April, SAASWIPP focuses on Self-Care in Social Work, encouraging reflection, balance, and support—especially for those working independently in private practice.

WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY CELEBRATION – 19 MARCH 2026
CUNIMA SOCIAL WORK ASSOCIATION
On 19 March 2026, the Cunima Social Work Association proudly celebrated World Social Work Day under the 2026 theme: “Co-building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite Divided Society.” The event took place at Nguludi Hospital.
The celebration focused on promoting mental health awareness among women. During the event, women were encouraged to take care of their well-being by maintaining a balanced diet, sharing their burdens with trusted and relevant individuals, accepting life challenges, and moving forward with strength. They were also encouraged to depend on God and seek spiritual support as part of their healing process.
This memorable and historic event was graced by the Head of Department, Madam Chione, the President of the Cunima Social Work Association, Mr. Khumbo Macheko, and Mr. Clemence Pea, an alumnus of Social Work, who directed the day’s activities.
The celebration was colorful and impactful, reflecting unity, hope, and the importance of mental health support in the community.
